IPL 2023 Auction: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Release, Retains and Probable Players List, Squad all you know: Ahead of the Tata IPL 2022, there were gossips across various platforms that the addition of the two new IPL teams might bring the competition down a little bit, however, fighting out all the odds, BCCI went through and brought in Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as the two new IPL teams. It was a near-perfect season for both the debutant franchises.
While Gujarat Titans (GT) ended their magnificent run after clinching the IPL title, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG’s) solid run was blocked in the eliminator by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
However, looking back at the season, Lucknow won’t be too disappointed with respect to how they performed and how things panned out for them. There were several positives for the franchise and a few loopholes as well.
LSG managed to form strong management with Andy Flower and Gautam Gambhir as the two top pillars. Having won the IPL twice, Gautam knows the IPL inside out and played a vital role in the success of LSG in the IPL 2022.
The franchise drafted KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi as the first three players for the team. During the auction, LSG bolstered the squad with the likes of Quinton de Kock, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Jason Holder, Avesh Khan and Moshin Khan.
KL Rahul was the top performer for the side, having scored over 600 runs in the season. Quinton de Kock also played an essential role in the opening position along with skipper KL Rahul.
Deepak Hooda expressed himself with his brilliant strokeplay throughout the IPL 2022, however, he often found himself short of a partner at the other end, which became a major issue in Lucknow’s campaign in the IPL 2022.
Although, LSG had the likes of Krunal Pandya, Ayush Badoni and Jason Holder, however, none of them performed consistently. The middle-order failure put pressure on the openers and Deepak Hooda to score the bulk of the runs for the team, which interestingly used to happen with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) prior to the IPL 2022.
Young Ravi Bishnoi was drafted by LSG ahead of the auctions, however, the youngster was too raw to do a Wanindu Hasaranga or Yuzvendra Chahal (both the spinners scalped over 25 wickets apiece for the respective franchises in the IPL 2022).
Nevertheless, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be confident to come better prepared for the next season of the IPL. They will surely work out their flaws and cover all the possible loopholes in their strategy to outclass the other nine sides.
However, ahead of that, LSG will have to go through the auction process once again. This auction won’t be as big as it was in the IPL 2022. The franchise will release a few players while adding a few performing assets to the team.
