IPL 2023 Auction: Delhi Capitals (DC) Release, Retains and Probable Players List, Squad all you know: Not everyone remembers what Delhi Capitals (DC) went through in the IPL 2022, but what everyone does remember is DC's 15th over against Mumbai Indians (MI) in its last league stage match, which decided Delhi?s fate in the Indian Premier League 2022. Bowl number 1 of the over 15, Tim David, who just arrived in the middle after the wicket of Dewald Bravis, got beaten on the fullish delivery outside off. Skipper Pant was excited and appealed for the caught behind, however, he got no support from his mates and after a long chat with the bowler Shardul Thakur he opted against going for the DRS, although Delhi had two left in the pocket.
It was going all good for the Delhi Capitals until the replays showed that David had nicked the ball. Had Delhi and Pant opted for a DRS in the 15.1 over, Delhi may end up sealing their chances of making it to the playoffs of the IPL 2022, however, it was all done and dusted for the Capitals as they missed the golden opportunity to dismiss dangerous Tim David by a whisker.
When Tim David arrived in the middle, the equation was evenly poised as Mumbai required 66 runs off 33 deliveries, but when David left, he placed Mumbai Indians in a rather comfortable position to deny Delhi Capitals' entry to the playoffs. Tim David made Delhi pay the price for their blunder and smashed 34 runs in just 11 deliveries.
In the end, Delhi lost the game and their playoff berth as Mumbai won the match and helped RCB to reach the top four.
The entire IPL 2022 was full of hardships for the Delhi Capitals. Besides their on-field woes, Delhi was struck multiple times with their off-field issues - Covid outbreak in the camp, Prithvi Shaw getting hospitalised, and Mitchell Marsh?s unavailability.
Just like in the last league stage match against Mumbai Indians, Delhi?s luck didn?t favour them during most of the IPL 2022. Whenever they needed a game-changing moment, they often fell short to produce one.
Their performance in the player auction was one of the bests. They acquired the likes of David Warner, Kuldeep Yadav and Mitchell Marsh for bargain prices. Delhi had a formidable squad on paper, however, the franchise couldn?t translate it to their on-field performance.
Nevertheless, the franchise will now hope for some reversal in fortunes in the next edition of the IPL. Ahead of that, Delhi Capitals will undergo the player auction process in which most of the players will be retained.
