South Africa ODI World Cup 2027 Schedule: South Africa ODI World Cup 2027 schedule: Check the Proteas’ full Group B fixtures, opponents, venues, dates and Super 7 qualification details.

South Africa ODI World Cup 2027 Schedule: South Africa will begin their home ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 campaign against New Zealand in Cape Town on October 9, with the Proteas set to face a challenging Group B lineup on home soil.

The 14-team World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October 2 to November 21, 2027. A total of 57 matches will be played across 12 venues during the tournament, which marks the return of the men’s ODI World Cup to Africa.

For South Africa, the tournament carries the added significance of being played in front of a home crowd. The Proteas have been placed in Group B alongside New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B.

Their group-stage campaign consists of five matches, with every team playing each opponent once. The top three teams from each group, along with the better-performing fourth-placed team across the two groups, will progress to the Super 7 stage.

South Africa in ICC ODI World Cup 2027 Group B

South Africa's Group B opponents are:

  • New Zealand
  • Sri Lanka
  • England
  • Bangladesh
  • Qualifier B

The Proteas have been pre-seeded as B2 for the Super 7 stage. The other pre-seeded positions are New Zealand as B1 and Sri Lanka as B3, while England has been assigned the AB4 position.

The new World Cup format means that qualifying from the group stage is only the first step. Unlike previous editions where teams could carry points into a later league phase, no Group Stage points will be carried over into the Super 7. Each Super 7 qualifier will start that phase with a clean slate and play six additional matches.

South Africa vs New Zealand: World Cup Opener

South Africa's first match will be against New Zealand at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on October 9.

It is a significant opening fixture for the hosts, with New Zealand entering the tournament as one of the pre-seeded Group B teams. The match will also give South Africa an immediate test against a side familiar with the demands of major ICC tournaments.

Cape Town will host several important matches during the World Cup, including the tournament's opening Group Stage contest between India and Australia on October 7. Newlands will later stage the first semi-final on November 17.

The fixtures are spread across five South African cities, giving the Proteas a broad home advantage but also requiring the squad to travel between venues during a demanding opening phase.

Their second match comes against Qualifier B in Paarl on October 13, before the Proteas take on England in Gqeberha three days later.

South Africa will then face Bangladesh in Durban on October 19 before completing their Group B campaign against Sri Lanka in Johannesburg on October 22. The ICC's official schedule confirms all five fixtures and venues.

South Africa vs England Could Be a Key Group Match

The October 16 fixture against England in Gqeberha could be another major contest in South Africa's group campaign.

England are among the teams pre-assigned a Super 7 position and will enter the tournament with ambitions of progressing beyond the group stage. The match will be played at Gqeberha, one of the eight South African cities hosting World Cup matches.

South Africa's other group opponents provide a different set of challenges. Bangladesh will face the Proteas in Durban on October 19, while Sri Lanka await in Johannesburg in the final group fixture.

The presence of New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh means South Africa will need consistent performances throughout the group stage rather than relying on one or two major results.

What Happens If South Africa Qualifies for the Super 7?

The 2027 World Cup introduces a three-stage competition format before the semi-finals.

First, the tournament begins with a three-team Super Series in Namibia involving the lowest-ranked qualifiers. The winner advances to the Group Stage. The 12 teams in the Group Stage are then divided into two groups of six.

The top three teams from each group automatically qualify for the Super 7. The seventh position goes to the better-performing fourth-placed team from the two groups.

South Africa's pre-seeded B2 position gives fans a clearer picture of their potential Super 7 pathway. If the Proteas qualify, they are scheduled to play six matches between October 25 and November 14.

Their listed Super 7 fixtures include meetings with England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand, assuming those teams occupy their designated seeded positions and qualify for the phase.

Importantly, these are not guaranteed opponents until qualification and final seeding are established. If another team replaces a pre-seeded side in the Super 7, it takes over that position and the associated fixture pathway.

World Cup 2027 Semi-Finals and Final

The Super 7 phase will determine the four teams that advance to the knockout stage.

The semi-finals are scheduled for November 17 and 18, with the first semi-final at Newlands in Cape Town and the second in Tshwane. The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 final will be played at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on November 21.

All three knockout matches are scheduled as day games, with reserve days assigned if required.

For South Africa, reaching the final would potentially mean finishing the tournament in Johannesburg, creating the possibility of a home-ground finale for the Proteas.

South Africa World Cup 2027 Schedule: Key Details

The 2027 World Cup will feature 14 teams, 57 matches and 12 venues across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. South Africa and Zimbabwe qualified directly as co-hosts, while the remaining teams secured places through the qualification process and ODI rankings.

For the Proteas, the immediate target is clear: navigate a competitive Group B and secure a place in the Super 7.

With five group matches spread across Cape Town, Paarl, Gqeberha, Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa will have the opportunity to play in several of the country's major cricket centres.

The journey begins on October 9 against New Zealand at Newlands. From there, the Proteas will face Qualifier B, England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka before the group stage concludes on October 22.

If South Africa advances, the next challenge will be an intensive six-match Super 7 phase before the tournament reaches the semi-finals and final in November.

With the World Cup returning to Africa, the Proteas will enter one of the most significant home tournaments in their recent ODI history. The full schedule is now confirmed, and the road to the 2027 World Cup final begins in Cape Town.
