4 Players who can become India’s future captain in all three formats

4 Players who can become India’s future captain in all three formats: Team India, in the recent past, endured a low patch where the men in blue were centred with a hell lot of issues that needed to be fixed. Out of all the issues, the major concern was the captaincy, which was then taken by Virat Kohli in all three formats. However, soon after the T20 World Cup 2021, everything changed in Indian cricket.

Virat decided to step down from the T20I captaincy and in return, he was forced to drop his ODI captaincy as well. Meanwhile, to further drop bombshells, Virat opted to step down from his test captaincy after India’s failed attempt to conquer South Africa in the test series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) soon after announced Rohit Sharma to be the new Indian skipper in all three formats. Though it seems that the captaincy issue has been sorted now for Indian cricket, however, everyone must note that Rohit is already 34-years of age.

At some point in time after two three years down the line, the BCCI will have to rethink the captaincy role and sort out candidates who can lead the side once Rohit Sharma draws a curtain to his leadership career.

Team India’s former head coach Ravi Shastri has provided his inputs on the glaring issue and pinned out a couple of players who we can see leading the Indian team in the future.

“Rohit’s not getting any younger. Neither is Virat (Kohli). They’ll have to look at who might be the captain two years, three years down the line,” Shastri said on ESPNCricinfo.

IPL captaincy can give fair idea on the next Indian captain:

Shastri said that IPL captaincy will give a fair idea on who could be India’s next skipper.

The likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Hardik Pandya will be seen leading their respective IPL team in the upcoming season.

“So that’s where I’ll be looking at. I’ll be looking at Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals). I’ll be looking at Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders). Very closely. Of course KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants), the way he handles that side. And Hardik for the simple reason if that can energise in him a manner that can make him come out and play with gay abandon.”

This year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 26th with MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings taking on Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders in the Wankhede Stadium.
