Mumbai Indians Qualify Chances: It’s that time of the year when we take our calculators out and do all the possible permutations and combinations to see how far our favourite IPL team can go. The IPL 2024 has already reached its second phase, which is often called the payback week. The competition has become fierce with a lot more at stake than it was earlier. The teams are now not only looking for a win, but a massive win to boost their net run rate as well.

Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) are undergoing a tumultuous situation. The team that has been successful beyond expectations, hasn’t managed to hit their mojo yet. The off-field controversy relating to the captaincy change followed by defeats on the bounce has been tough for the five-time IPL winners.

All such issues have accounted for Mumbai Indians’ downfall in the ongoing IPL season. The team has reached a point where they have to look for their qualifying chances in the IPL 2024.

Their recent defeat came against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Mumbai Indians (MI) lost the fixture by 10 runs in the final over of the game in their bid to chase the 257-run total.

The bowling looked underpowered throughout the game with all of their bowlers going 9 or more over. The fielding wasn’t great either and the batting remained concerning for the team as well.

Mumbai’s game against Delhi Capitals resulted in their sixth loss of the ongoing season in nine outings. The team is placed in the penultimate position with little hope of climbing up. With five games remaining in their IPL 2024 campaign, let’s discuss Mumbai Indians Qualify Chances 2024 IPL | Can MI Qualify for IPL Playoffs 2024?

As things stand, Mumbai Indians is presently in the ninth spot in the IPL Points Table with three wins and six losses from nine matches. The net run rate is at -0.261, which isn’t a big worry. The team has five more games to go before the playoff stage in IPL 2024.

Winning all the remaining five matches would be crucial for Mumbai Indians if they look for a clear-cut berth in the playoff of IPL 2024. These five wins will take them to an overall tally of 8 wins in 14 matches, which is 16 rating points.

16 points may give MI the advantage of qualifying for the IPL 2024 playoffs without requiring too many permutations and combinations.

But, it’s noteworthy that even a single loss would hurt Mumbai Indians’ qualification chances in the 2024 IPL. One loss, in the remaining five matches, would mean that they finish on 14 points, which will then bring the net run rate into the picture. The loss would also mean that Mumbai Indians will have to hope for a couple of fixtures to go their way.

It looks quite gloomy for MI in the ongoing IPL 2024. Their performances so far have been underwhelming and concerning. Their chances of qualification for the IPL Playoffs are really low if we look at how they have performed and what games they are supposed to play in their next five fixtures.

MI will have to compete against Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants twice each while one game is reserved for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

With such opponents, you don’t expect a bottom-ranked team to cross the line every time, or there have to be some miracles.

KKR and SRH are potentially a big threat for MI as both teams have notched up massive totals in the IPL 2024. To make things worse, the matches against KKR will be held at Wankhede Stadium and Eden Gardens, both of which are high-scoring venues.

Mumbai Indians faced defeat against SRH when they last faced them at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. SRH went on to break RCB’s decade-long record of highest first-innings total in T20s by scoring 277 runs.

Even, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won’t be an easy shot. The KL Rahul-led side is comfortably placed in the first half of the IPL 2024 points table with a decent number of wins.
