1. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):
KKR is another franchise that needs a slight makeover going ahead in the IPL 2022 Auction. The Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise did exceptionally well under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, however, after his retirement, the franchise has failed in multiple aspects.
The major issue will be the captaincy role. In IPL 2020, Dinesh Karthik was made the skipper, however, he stepped down midway to focus on his batting and eventually English batsman Eoin Morgan was handed over the role.
Morgan has failed to deliver and serve what he does for his national side England in the shortest format. His IPL career is hanging only due to his international records.
The franchise needs a strong leader who himself goes on front foot to lead the side.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra in one of his youtube videos said that KKR should appoint Shubman Gill as their skipper and make the entire team around him, just like what Delhi Capitals did with Shreyas Iyer.
Apart from this, the batting collapse will be another issue for the management.
Barring a couple of initial games in IPL 2021, KKR openers have seen a major collapse. Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill looked good in a few games, however, their performances dropped drastically advancing in the tournament.
Giving responsibilities to Shubman Gill and other new players will work for the team as it can bring out the best under pressure.
