VIrat Kohli to surpass former West Indies legend Brian Lara in the IND vs NZ 2025 ICC Champions Trophy clash

Indian legend Virat Kohli has been the most inspiring cricketer of his generation since the player has shown commanding form owing to his fitness routine. Kohli will star in the upcoming IND vs NZ contest of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will mark a great feat in his illustrious career. 

Kohli will play his 300th ODI international as he surpasses the former Windies legend Brian Lara, who had played 299 games in the history of the limited-overs format. Kohli recently gained form with a commanding hundred against Pakistan in the last game. 

This marked Kohli’s further lead into international cricket with his 82nd century, of which 51 have come in the ODI format alone, which took him much ahead of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (49 hundred) and third on the list cricketer, Rohit Sharma (32 centuries). 

Promising Kiwi all-rounder showing some great form in the ongoing Champions Trophy, Michael Bracewell commented, "Playing 300 games across formats is very impressive and then you put that in just one format. It's a testament to the way Virat Kohli has gone about his career. It's a massive achievement".

Only the likes of former Indian stars Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Yuvraj Singh have played more ODI matches in their careers than Virat Kohli. 

Virat Kohli recently completed 14000 runs in ODI cricket

Virat Kohli in the last game against Pakistan played a record-breaking hundred-run innings, chasing a low total against their arch-rivals. Kohli, in doing so, became only the third cricketer in the world to have scored 14000+ international runs alone in the 50-over format. 

Virat Kohli not only surpassed the likes of Ricky Ponting, the former Australian skipper, with the number of runs scored but also became the fastest cricketer to 14000 ODI runs. Kohli is now just 149 runs behind the great Kumar Sangakkara and with another 150 runs, he can be the cricketer with the second-most runs in ODIs, only behind former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, who has 18426 runs in his career spanning over 2 decades.
