Virat Kohli reclaims ICC ODI No. 1 Batting ranking for first time in a span of five years, dethrones Rohit Sharma

Virat Kohli has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings after five years, overtaking Rohit Sharma. His rise follows a strong run of form, including a 93 against New Zealand, and marks his 11th time at the top. Elsewhere, Mohammed Siraj, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Travis Head made notable gains in the ODI, T20, and Test rankings respectively.

India's legendary batsman Virat Kohli has received a significant reward for his consistently excellent performance. Kohli has once again reached the top of the One Day Cricket ICC rankings. The ICC released the latest ODI rankings on Wednesday, and Kohli has reached the number one position. Notably, Kohli has surpassed former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who has now slipped to number three. The 37-year-old recently played a brilliant innings of 93 runs in the first ODI against the Kiwis, which has helped him gain two places in the rankings.

Kohli became the number-1 batsman for the first time after a long gap of five years

Kohli, who has been in excellent form since the ODI series against Australia, has scored 73, 132, 101, 61, and 91 in his last five innings. The 37-year-old Kohli last reached the No. 1 spot in July of 2021. He first achieved the top ranking for the 1st time in his International career in October of 2013, and this is his 11th time at the top. Overall, Kohli has held the No. 1 spot for 823 days, the most by an Indian player.

Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has jumped one spot in the ODI rankings after scoring a quickfire 82 off 71 balls in the first ODI. He trails Virat by a margin of just one rating point. Rohit, who topped the previous rankings, has slipped to third. Among Indian batsmen, Shubman Gill is at fifth, Shreyas Iyer at 10th, while KL Rahul is at 11th.

Talking about the bowling rankings, Indian right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj has gained five places in the bowlers' rankings, moving up to 15th, where he is tied with Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan. Meanwhile, New Zealand's Kyle Jamieson produced a career-best performance against India, taking four wickets, and jumped 27 places to 69th. He is tied with Arshdeep Singh in the rankings.

A look at the T20 rankings

Sri Lankan leg-spin bowling all rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who played a key role in the T20 International draw against Pakistan, has gained in the T20 rankings. He has jumped three places to second place. Meanwhile, Salman Mirza, after taking three wickets in the first T20I, has jumped 16 places to 19th. In the batting rankings, Sahibzada Farhan has moved up one spot to fifth, while captain Agha Salman has jumped 13 places to 41st.

Travis Head gains in Test rankings

Travis Head was the biggest gainer in the rankings . He was the leading run-scorer in the Ashes series, scoring 629 runs at an average of 62.9, and jumped seven places to third. Michael Neser also gained seven places. Beau Webster, who delivered a stellar performance in the final Ashes Test, made significant jumps, jumping six places in batting and 29 places in bowling. Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell gained 25 places to grab attention.
