Suryakumar Yadav likely to miss MIvsDC fixture in IPL 2022 due to hairline fracture: Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered a blow ahead of the Tata IPL 2022 opener as their star cricketer Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t recovered from his injury and is highly unlikely to take part in the opening fixture of the team against Delhi Capitals (DC).

Suryakumar Yadav was one of the four players retained by Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The cricketer sustained a hairline fracture during the three matches T20I series against West Indies and was subsequently ruled out of the Sri Lanka series.

Five times IPL winner, Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) in its first match of the IPL 2022. The clash will be held on March 27th in Brabourne Stadium.

A source close to the development informed that Suryakumar is undergoing his rehab at the NCA and will join his franchise soon.

“Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair,” a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board’s medical team to not risk playing the opener,” he added.

Looking at the intensity of the tournament, Mumbai won’t risk their premier batter to challenge the injury and play without completely recovering. With MI set to play its second game after a gap of five days following the opening fixture, Yadav is believed to pose himself fit by then.

Suryakumar along with Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Jasprit Bumrah are four of Mumbai’s top players who form the core of the side. The franchise has always backed its domestic players and yielded healthy results.

“I think by the second MI game, he would be 100 per cent match fit. It is likely to be more of a precautionary measure if he doesn’t play the first game,” the source added.

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that Rohit Sharma along with Jasprit Bumrah has joined Mumbai’s camp ahead of the Tata IPL 2022. Both the players returned after completing their national duties against Sri Lanka.

Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma defeated Sri Lanka in both T20I and Test series. The hosts cleanly swept the visitors comprehensively.
