<p>The young stumper batsman Rishabh Pant has been named as the leader of Delhi Capitals (DC) once again after his success in the last season. He replaced Shreyas Iyer in the team, who is apparently not retained by the franchise.</p>



<p>Pant was appointed leader of the side when Iyer was injured and he did enormously well in the Captaincy. He took his team to the playoffs and was apt with his resource usage.</p>

<p>The New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is going to be SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper for the fifteenth season of the Indian Premier League. He has been retained by the franchise for a whopping INR 14 Crores during the recent IPL 2022 Player Retentions.</p>



<p>The franchise earlier sacked David Warner from his captaincy and appointed Kane Williamson as the leader of the group. Warner was not given enough reasons for his removal and thus the franchise was amidst the public rage over their behaviour toward David Warner.</p>



<p>Williamson recently took his national side to ICC T20 World Cup 2021 final despite not having mighty players in the squad unlike India, Australia and England. New Zealand took everyone for a surprise after they reached the final and asserted that a team needs to play like a team in order to proceed forward in any tournament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals are keen to give another go to young Sanju Samson as the leader of the side. He has been retained by the franchise for whopping INR 14 Crores.</p>



<p>Samson was appointed Rajasthan?s captain during IPL 2021 following Steve Smith?s failure. Though it was not a memorable campaign for the Sanju-led Rajasthan Royals, surely he will have his learning.</p>

<p>The Mohali based IPL franchise is struggling to get going in the Indian Premier League. Right from the player selection to their strategies, the franchise has grappled a lot and is keen to make amends to it from the coming season.</p>



<p>Mayank Agarwal is the probable candidate to lead the side in the coming auction. KL Rahul has already parted ways with the franchise and wants to explore opportunities.</p>



<p>Agarwal has been retained by the franchise for INR 12 Crores. He will serve the franchise for a few more years to come and is a good candidate for the captaincy role.</p>

<p>Today on 17 January, the official sources confirm the news on Twitter, Ahmedabad announced their first 3 draft players - Hardik Pandya (15 crores), Rashid Khan (crores) and Shubham Gill (7 crores).</p>

<p>Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul is expected to join Lucknow based new IPL franchise as their new captain. If the reports are to be believed, Rahul is in talks with Lucknow officials and the deal is likely to be done by the end of December.</p>



<p>Rahul did well during his stay at PBKS. He scored maximum runs for his side and was quite good with his captaincy as well. However, he wanted to explore more opportunities and hence decided to part ways with the franchise.</p>

<p><strong>Tata IPL 2022:</strong> Chinese smartphone manufacturer company, Vivo, has finally decided to pull out of the Indian Premier League?s title sponsorship. The decision was made public during the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC) meeting held on January 11th.</p>



<p>Vivo acquired the title sponsorship rights of the lucrative IPL back in 2018 for a massive INR 440 Crores. The five years massive agreement with the BCCI was set to run until the end of IPL 2022.?</p>



<p>The border standoff between India and China, last year and the political tension between the two countries pushed Vivo into the back foot and forced to withdraw from its IPL sponsorship deal.?</p>



<p>The rights of the IPL 2020 were transferred to Dream11 owing to the rising political tension between India and China, however, Vivo was brought back as the title sponsor in the recently concluded IPL 2021.</p>

<p><strong>Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction Date Confirmed:</strong> As said earlier, the ongoing week is going to be a huge week regarding the developments of the upcoming IPL 2022. Earlier, the BCCI on January 10th confirmed Ahmedabad's inclusion in the Indian Premier League (IPL) family following weeks of tussle due to the concerns of CVC Capitals betting investments.</p>



<p>Now, in an exclusive development, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed the dates of the all-important IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Mr Patel on January 11th verified that the IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be a two days affair between the 10 IPL teams.</p>



<p>The Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction is scheduled in the city of Bangalore on 12th and 13th February, Mr Brijesh Patel confirmed.</p>



<p>He also said that the BCCI has provided two weeks time to the two new teams to select and announce their top three draft picks. A formal letter regarding the same is yet to be dispatched, however, BCCI verbally informed the owners of Ahmedabad and Lucknow.</p>



<p>The two new IPL teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will have to finalise their draft picks on or before January 25th.</p>

<p>The IPL chairman also confirmed the exit of the Chinese Smartphone manufacturer brand, Vivo, from the title sponsorship of the IPL. It was revealed that Vivo had made a request to terminate the deal before the IPL 2022 and BCCI accepted the request.</p>



<p>The Tata Group was inducted into the IPL as its new title sponsor until IPL 2023. The BCCI would earn the same amount that it used to earn from Vivo.</p>



<p>?Vivo has exited and the Tatas will be title sponsors. There was a request from Vivo to exit the IPL sponsorship deal and the GC has approved it. The BCCI will continue to earn the same fee for the title rights,? said Brijesh Patel as quoted by Cricbuzz.</p>



<p>Vivo?s exit from the IPL was anticipated due to the political tensions between India and China. Vivo backed out as IPL?s title sponsor in IPL 2020 and subsequently, Dream11 was roped in by the BCCI for that particular season. Vivo came back as the title sponsor in the recently held IPL 2021 but is no longer in the position to continue the agreement which was scheduled to run until the end of IPL 2023.</p>

<p>The decision seems more sensible since Starc?s wife, Alyssa Healy, is also a professional cricketer and remains away from her family for a large portion of the year. The IPL window seems to be the perfect time for the couple to spend time together.</p>

Four years after going unsold, Root is again pondering putting his name in the auction and going under the hammer.</p>

<p>It is noteworthy that Joe Root, who is considered as one of the modern-day greats, is yet to don the IPL jersey. He opted to feature in the cash-rich league back in IPL 2018, however, not even a single franchise showed interest in his services.</p>



<p>"Time is ticking but I have a lot to weigh up. Will it have a negative impact on me playing Test cricket? If I don't think so then I will put myself in the auction. But I will never do anything that will detract from playing Test cricket for England. <p>The COVID?s third wave is still in its nascent stage in India currently and possibilities of hosting the IPL in India are endless despite rise in the cases. Recently, the BCCI was also contemplating hosting the entire IPL 2022 in Maharashtra, however, the plans seem to fade away as Maharashtra is reporting massive covid spikes on daily basis.</p>



<p>The Indian cricket board is also not willing to always look to the UAE for hosting the IPL. The last two seasons of the tournament were hosted in UAE only.</p>

If the India tour of South Africa concludes successfully without any hindrance of covid-19, the Indian cricket board would feel encouraged to consider hosting the IPl 2022 in South Africa.</p>

<p><strong>Bharat Arun has joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as bowling coach for IPL 2022:</strong> Former Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming edition of the Indian tournament. The franchise confirmed the development through a social media post on Friday (January 14th).</p>



<p>It must be noted that Arun?s tenure as team India?s bowling coach ended recently after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The former right-arm pacer was in Ravi Shastri?s coaching panel in the Indian team and served for several years. </p>



<p>Indian bowlers achieved scalable heights under the shadow of Arun. Team India?s daunting pace attack is formed under Bharat Arun?s coaching stint.</p>



<p>It is noteworthy that Bharat Arun was previously associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2015 to 2017. However, the coach had to resign from his role due to the conflict of interest issue.</p>

<p><strong>Punjab Kings (PBKS) new Captain in Tata IPL 2022:</strong> The Punjab Kings (PBKS) has been the most unfortunate franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In fact, PBKS is one of the three IPL teams that has featured in every IPL season since the inception of the tournament and never won a title.</p>



<p>The franchise, which was earlier known as ?Kings XI Punjab?, choose to rebrand the team ahead of the IPL 2021. Punjab Kings (PBKS) name was adopted in the IPL 2021, however, that also couldn?t bring change in the fortunes as the team again failed to reach playoffs.</p>



<p>Punjab Kings (PBKS) sustained a massive blow as their premier batsman and captain KL Rahul decided to part ways with the franchise and try out other opportunities. During the retention process, Rahul was dropped from PBKS, though the franchise wanted to have his services.</p>



<p>In the Tata IPL 2022 Player Retentions, Punjab retained the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. With just two retentions, PBKS will be highly active in the upcoming IPL 2022 Mega Auction and will try to acquire big-time match-winners in the team.</p>

<p>Talented opener batsman Mayank Agarwal will be one of the probable candidates for Punjab Kings (PBKS) to lead the team. Probably, Agarwal would be one of the easiest options as the franchise has already retained his services during the recent player retention for INR 12 Crores.</p>



<p>Besides KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal is the only player who has consistently performed for the team. Often Agarwal used to be the initiator of the destruction and scored the bulk of runs for PBKS in the powerplay overs.</p>



<p>In KL Rahul?s absence, Mayank Agarwal has also led the franchise in the past. Moreover, he is a quick learner of the game who can be utilised as the captain in future.</p>



<p>PBKS appointed him deputy of KL Rahul and by general judgement, he should be the one to captain the team after Rahul?s exit. Mayank Agarwal also has a productive synergy with the franchise and its management which would help him glue the entire squad together.?</p>



<p>Talking about his batting stats in the recently concluded IPL 2021, Agarwal plundered 441 runs at an impressive average of 40.09 and maintained a healthy strike rate of 140.44.</p>



<p>Punjab Kings (PBKS) should consider Mayank Agarwal as a potent captaincy option and he can solve a long term captaincy headache for the management.</p>

<p>The cricket pundits rate Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH?s) move to leave out David Warner as an extremely disgusting decision. Warner had an upsetting fallout with the franchise during the IPL 2021 where he got sacked from his captaincy and then comprehensively got removed from the team.</p>

David Warner brings composure and vivid experience with himself which will be helpful for the youngsters in the team.</p>



<p>Moreover, his prowess as the captain of the side is also exceptional. He led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to its only IPL title back in 2016. His win percentage as the skipper is also encouraging. Warner took his team over the winning rope on 52 per cent of occasions.</p>



<p>Also under Warner?s captaincy, SRH reached the playoff two times barring the one in which SRH won the IPL.</p>



<p>Punjab Kings (PBKS) would be happy to take his services and value his past contributions. If he becomes available, Warner is surely going to break the banks of several teams in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.</p>



<h3><strong>Eoin Morgan:</strong></h3>

<p>The other captaincy option would be England?s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan. Punjab Kings (PBKS) need an exceptional leader and Morgan has all the required traits of an exceptional captain.</p>



<p>The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper, Eoin Morgan, was fantastic with his captaincy in the recently concluded IPL 2021. Though his batting became an area of concern, his apt captaincy was admired by everyone.</p>



<p>He raised KKR from penultimate position to the runner-ups in the IPL 2021. Moreover, Morgan recently took his national side, England, to ICC T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals.</p>



<p>Morgan?s T20I stats would encourage IPL franchises to consider him as a valuable player. Though his IPL records as a batsman aren?t amazing, he can certainly prove his worth in gold with a new opportunity.</p>



<p>Eoin Morgan has represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the past and the southpaw can possibly return to the Mohali based franchise in the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).&nbsp;</p>



<p>The Englishmen would also be eager to bounce back in the lucrative T20 league and improve his tattered batting stats.</p>
