Possible Replacements of Anrich Nortje in Delhi Capitals (DC) for IPL 2022: Weeks ahead to the start of the TATA IPL 2022, Delhi Capitals (DC) has sustained a massive blow as their premier pacer Anrich Nortje is reportedly going to miss the elite T20 tournament due to his hip injury which he sustained during the last T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Delhi based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise retained the services of Anrich Nortje for INR 6.5 Crores ahead of the mega auction.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) hasn’t named Anrich Nortje in its ODI squad that will be facing Bangladesh, which gives a clear indication of the pacer’s unavailability. Nortje is also unlikely to be named in the test squad of South Africa.

It’s noteworthy that Anrich Nortje was instrumental in the little success that Delhi achieved in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The express pacer scalped 22 wickets in IPL 2020 while 12 wickets in the recently concluded season of the cash-rich league.

It would be a massive loss for the Capitals if Anrich Nortje gets ruled out of the entire Tata IPL 2022. If the reports are to be believed, Nortje is certainly not going to play in the first half of the tournament, but if he recuperates well, he might be available for the second half.

If the South African seamer gets ruled out, DC would have to rope in a quality replacement for him.

Australia’s Andrew Tye, Kane Richardson and Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara are the three possible players who can be roped in as the replacement by Delhi Capitals.

Andrew Tye has rich prior experience of playing in the Indian Premier League and is the most probable pacer to be called in as the replacement among the other two named. He has been an Orange Cap winner in the IPL 2018. The pacer has scalped 40 wickets in 27 IPL matches.

Kane Richardson will be another Aussie player who can be called in as the replacement. The pacer has featured in 15 IPL games wherein he scalped 19 wickets.

The third choice for Delhi Capitals would be Sri Lankan Lahiru Kumara. The pacer though is the consistent face of the Sri Lankan national side, he hasn’t managed to successfully fetch an IPL contract.

He went unsold during the recent IPL auction at a base price of INR 50 Lakhs. In 19 T20I matches for Sri Lanka, Kumara has picked up 23 wickets.
