Delhi Capitals (IPL)

Delhi Capitals team 2023: Delhi will arrive at the IPL 2023 auction with a budget of INR 19.45 crore. They let go of Shardul Thakur whom they bought at around 10 crores in the 2022 mega auction. They can buy up to five cricketers, of whom at most two can be overseas.

The Delhi Capitals retained their skipper Rishabh Pant, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw, all-arounder Axar Patel, and South African pacer Anrich Nortje before the IPL 2022 auction. The Delhi team purchased 20 players in the two-day event hosted in Bengaluru in February 2022, they drew players like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell, Lungi Ngidi, Yash Dhull, Srikar Bharat, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav.

Delhi Capitals Strengths

Warner and Shaw, the powerful opening horses, both hit over 150 in the 2022 IPL. So did  Pant down the order, with Powell finishing in with 149.7. Few IPL clubs can boast of having such potent batting lineups, and Aman has been an excellent addition. The top order is all set for Delhi Capitals.

As previously mentioned, the bowling attack offers depth and variety: left-arm pace, right-arm pace, finger-spin, wrist-spin, leaving the right-hander, coming into them—they have it all.

Delhi Capitals Weaknesses

If Delhi uses two of their three foreign fast bowlers, they can’t play Warner, Powell, and Marsh at the top, which occasionally throws the team’s balance off. Another major issue is that they lack all-rounders, which ultimately affects the selection of the playing XI.

Although their Indian contingency is large, is it sufficiently deep? They must support the initiative of Lalit Yadav, Sarfaraz, Aman, Khaleel Ahmed, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, or Yash Dhull. The absence of a backup spinner is the other issue they meet. Vicky Ostwal is a talented left-arm spinner, but these are still early days for him.

 Delhi Capitals Auction strategy

Delhi Capitals have 20 players in their squad and a purse of 19.45 cr. They have only 5 spots left and a lot of money to spend. DC need a middle-order all-rounder batsman who can play aggressively in death overs and can bowl as well. They need a 10-12 cr player to fill the spot. Whom they would be looking for?

IPL Auction 2023: Delhi Capitals can chase these key players.
Jason Holder, Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, and Camron Green are the only 4 quality all-rounders in the mini Auction 2022

There are only 4 quality overseas all-rounders- Jason Holder, Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, and Cameron Green. And to be honest, only Jason Holder is one who might be on the cheaper side and that too could be of 7 to 8 crores. It would be really interesting to see who they chase down in the auction. They can even look for Reece Topley as an excellent new and old ball bowler.
