PBKS have IPL winning squad, onus on us to execute plans in IPL 2022: Mayank Agarwal: Punjab Kings (PBKS) newly-appointed skipper Mayank Agarwal has shown his faith in the set of players he has for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), beginning March 26. The franchise gave the highest order responsibility to Mayank Agarwal after their top recruit in IPL 2021, KL Rahul parted ways with the team ahead of the auction.

Mayank Agarwal has been associated with Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the last four years. The flamboyant batter has amassed more than 400 runs in each of his last two IPL editions.

Since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab has been an underperforming side. Their only IPL final appearance came way back in 2014. The franchise has now pinned hopes in the reversal of fortunes on its new recruits.

PBKS retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh ahead of the auction. The franchise had a big purse for the auction and they used it to their advantage to get the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Odean Smith, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone and many others.

Agarwal, the PBKS skipper, admitted that they have a title-winning squad and the responsibility will be on players to execute plans under pressure.

“We like to believe that we do have a title-winning squad and now it is upon us as players to execute our skills under pressure and see what we can make out of it,” Agarwal told PTI on Saturday.

“As a team we have done a good job at the auction. We were looking at few skill sets knowing that the tournament will be played in Mumbai and we have covered those bases. We are happy with the balance we have in the side,” he added.

We have plans to take team forward: Mayank Agarwal

The Indian test opener further said that there is no change as far as his batting is concerned but with captaincy, he has made plans to take the team forward.

“When I am batting I am just a batsman. We have made our plans (on captaincy front) to take the team forward,” he said.

Agarwal heaped praises on experienced southpaw Shikhar Dhawan and is excited to have him in the side.

“I can’t talk about the batting order as of now but I can definitely say that we are excited to have Shikhar on board. He is an absolute livewire, a great entertainer, a massive performer and a lot of the guys will feed off his energy. He is also in great mind space.”
