IPL 2023 Auction: Punjab Kings (PBKS) Release, Retains and Probable Players List, Squad all you know: Punjab Kings (PBKS) followed the same routine that they are used to following ever since they entered the IPL final back in 2014. The franchise made another league stage exit from the Tata IPL 2022 as they finished sixth in the points table.
PBKS had a new skipper in Mayank Agarwal for the season following the exit of KL Rahul. The franchise did well to get some match-winning players during the auction, however, as they say, utilising the resources is more important than assembling them, Punjab couldn’t make the best use of its resource.
The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith and Rahul Chahar went to Punjab Kings in the auction and it was expected that the franchise will make its cut to the playoffs, however, nothing went in Punjab’s favour after the auction.
Barring Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone, who performed consistently in the IPL 2022, no other player from the franchise could notch up good scores consistently, not even the skipper.
It was a disastrous season for Mayank Agarwal as he failed big time to sweetly time the ball. The major reason for Agarwal’s batting failure is his uncertainty in his batting position, which he sacrificed more often than not.
Odean Smith, the big West Indies rising star, had an unfortunate start to his IPL career. He, though, showed few of his muscular shots, however, his initial visuals didn’t last for long.
The fact that Punjab couldn’t manage to notch up two victories on the trot hurt their aspirations to enter the top four of the IPL 2022. The franchise often found a way of losing important matches after a single win.
Nevertheless, the franchise will be optimistic for their upcoming season. The auction will be held and Punjab Kings will have to release a few players and retain some as well.
