Tushar Deshpande, the fast bowler from Chennai Super Kings, has bagged the record of being the first-ever “Impact Player” to play in the TATA IPL. This rule was introduced in the TATA IPL 2023 season and has introduced a lot of excitement. The player to go off the field in the second innings was Ambati Rayudu. Ambati Rayudu did his job with the bat in the first innings and was replaced by Tushar Deshpande in the second innings of the CSK VS GT.

Sai Sudarshan, the batter from the Gujarat Titans was bought on as another “Impact Player”. The batter to go off was Kane Williamson. But this change was forced as Kane Williamson injured himself while fielding. In the initial stage of the first innings, when the Chennai Super Kings were batting, in the 13th over of the first innings of the CSK VS GT game, Kane Williamson was injured.

Joshua Little was bowling to Ruturaj Gaikwad and Gaikwad played a pull shot toward mid-wicket. It was an excellent effort from Kane Williamson to jump over the boundary to avoid a six. It was a four, but in the wake of saving the two runs, Kane injured his left foot. He was in tremendous pain and was taken off the field immediately.

What is the Impact Player Rule?

The Impact Player rules are very simple. Depending upon the situation of the game any team can make one substitution in the game. But the substitution should be such that at any point in time, there can be at the maximum only 4 foreign players on the field. This substitution can be done at any point in the game.

Let us take an example to understand the “Impact Player” Rule. Assume the Mumbai Indians are using the “Impact Player”. If they are asked to bowl first in any game and want the services of Piyush Chawla, they can play Chawla in the starting 11. They can ask him to bowl his 4 overs and once he is done, they can immediately replace him with an additional batter like Ramandeep Singh or Hrithik Shokeen.
