World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated: England have once again been rocked in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, this time by the mighty Australians, who defeated the formers by 33 runs in the second game of the Sunday doubleheader. Subsequently, England were eliminated from the semi-finals and the team remains at the bottom of the World Cup 2023 Points Table, which was updated after the England vs Australia fixture in Ahmedabad.

England came into the World Cup 2023 as the defending champions and everyone touted them as a formidable force, however, as the tournament began, we saw a completely contrasting side of the Englishmen. England had begun their World Cup 2023 campaign at the Narendra Modi Stadium with a defeat on October 5 and they again traced their way back to this venue to get eliminated from the tournament, that is how life came full circle for England.

Australia scored 286 runs in their innings, batting first, with Marnus Labuschagne top scoring with 71 runs knock while Steve Smith and Cameron Green played 44 and 47 run innings respectively. The Australian openers were removed cheaply by the Englishmen, however, the innings was steadied by the duo of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.

After the fall of the Aussie duo, another partnership grew between all-rounder Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis. And to cap off the innings, there were handy contributions from the long tail they possess, owing to which Australia could post 286 runs before getting bundled out against England.

In the very first delivery of the innings, England got a setback in the form of Jonny Bairstow, who was removed for a duck. Veteran batter Joe Root’s awful run continued in the tournament, especially in the powerplay overs as he too fell after scoring 13 runs. Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes brought the innings back on the track with the partnership of 84 runs.

Australian bowlers didn’t let things slip too easily as they removed both the set batters eventually. Once again the innings started to see a collapse, but this time Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes came to the English rescue. Both the batters played healthy knocks 42 and 32 respectively. However, it was not enough for them to cross the winning line. Despite some handy knocks from the tailenders, the 286-run total became far-fetched for England, who lost the contest by 33 runs.

In the morning game of the Sunday doubleheader, New Zealand were defeated by Pakistan with a DLS-manufactured victory with a margin of 21 runs. Multiple rain interruptions caused the DLS method to come into play during Pakistan’s innings after New Zealand had notched up a massive 401-run total.

World Cup 2023 Points Table: Australia Gets Closer Semi-Finals Qualification

Australia are placed third in the World Cup 2023 Points Table after winning their latest fixture against England. With 10 points from seven matches and an impressive five consecutive wins, Australia have a smooth chance of making it to the semi-finals.

For their seamless entry to the top 4, Australia needs to win one of their remaining two matches (against Bangladesh and Afghanistan). However, if they lose both of them, they still will have some chances left to eventually make it, however, it will require a lot of permutation and combination.

ENG vs AUS: England Eliminated from Semi-Finals World Cup 2023

With their sixth defeat and fifth consecutive, defeat in the ongoing World Cup 2023, England no longer remains a contender for the semi-finals spot. The loss against Australia by 33 runs put a complete break in their campaign in the tournament, of which they were the defending champions.

England still have two games before they conclude their embarrassing outing in India (against Netherlands and Pakistan) and they will now aim to win both of them to at least get to a better seat in the World Cup 2023 Points Table. Their qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025 is directly linked to their performance in the next two matches.

The top seven teams of the World Cup 2023 Points Table plus Pakistan as host, qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025.
