Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy will be another guy to watch for in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The tweaker, fortunately, found his name in the final squad after his outstanding performances in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021. The Indian selectors overlooked the likes of experienced Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav to pick Varun Chakravarthy and other spinners for the showpiece event.

In the recent IPL 2021, Chakravarthy scalped 18 wickets from 17 matches at an impressive economy of 6.58. If his last year’s bowing stats are looked at, the spinner uprooted 17 wickets from 13 innings at an average of 6.84.

Chakravarthy suffered two biggest blows in the past two years. He was set to travel to Australia for a long tour and was expected to make his debut, however, an unfortunate shoulder injury pulled his name back from the visiting squad. The spinner once again got a chance to make his shortest format debut for India during the England home series, however, again he failed to cross the barriers as this time he was ruled out of the India squad due to a failure in the clearing team India’s mandatory fitness test.

Defying all the odds, the mystery spinner has found his name for the biggest event in the shortest format cricket. The Tamil Nadu spinner will have the onus to replicate his IPL performance in the T20 World Cup and prove to be one of the best assets for the team.

#4: KL Rahul

Karnataka batsman KL Rahul may have taken a few false steps in terms of his IPL captaincy, however, he is an acclaimed batter who has shown his abilities in the past and continue to do so in regular intervals. Rahul endured an extremely successful IPL season recently, batting wise, and would love to continue his prolific form in the T20 World Cup 2021.

He scored 626 runs from just 13 innings in the recently concluded IPL 2021 at an average of 62.60. Moreover, he played six half-century innings including one in which he fell just two runs short of his well manufactured century.

Despite Virat Kohli claiming to open the T20I innings, during the England tour of India earlier this year, KL Rahul is the most probable candidate to pick up the roles alongside Rohit Sharma. He is almost inevitable in the opening slot with the kind of form he is in.

With no captaincy pressure, Rahul will look to capitalise on his good touch and carry from where he left in the IPL. Surely, he is number five on the list of players to watch for in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Team India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah’s side Mumbai Indians may have failed to make the IPL 2021 a memorable one, however, the pacer is looking high to contribute to team India’s success in the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah was in sublime touch in the IPL 2021 second leg, which was held in the UAE, and will continue to prove lethal for the opposition. He picked up 21 wickets from 14 IPL 2021 matches in the IPL 2021 and most of those wickets have come from the UAE leg.

The Indian ace speedster was in pale form in the ICC World Test Championship earlier this year, which Indian lost due to collective failure from the batsman and bowlers. The pacer will be raring to go out and make up for the endured loss in the WTC Final against New Zealand.

Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah is team India’s go-to bowler in difficult situations. Every skipper looks at him when he needs a wicket and BUmrah has delivered more often than not during those crunch times.

Team India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is the one who is extremely elated to play the T20 World Cup 2021. Though he has played several crucial tournaments during his entire career including World Cups, Sharma believes the upcoming four ICC tournaments to be the most important for him and for team India.

Sharma was in fine touch in the IPL 2021 scoring 381 runs from 13 matches at an average of 29.30. Though Rohit hasn’t played up to his standards in the IPL 2021, he fulfilled his role with greater responsibility. With the end of the IPL 2021, his complete focus has been changed to the T20 World Cup 2021 planning.

The experienced campaigner is now looking forth to serve a much higher and bigger perspective for the team where he is one of the most important stock for the Men in Blue. The swashbuckling batter has already indicated his plans to go all guns blazing to lift the title.

If Rohit manages to hold one side up-front, he can be an extremely destructive and unstoppable force. He breached several milestones during ODI World Cup 2019 and wants to go even further in the upcoming T20 World Cup with a better result.

#1: Virat Kohli

Team India’s regular skipper has had his best time serving as the skipper of the Indian team. He is India’s all-format captain and has had several illustrious moments in the past which shows the greatness of his cricket. However, Kohli hasn’t managed to put a single ICC trophy in his cabinet which pulls his captaincy career a little bit.

Moreover, he ended his IPL captaincy term without a single trophy. Kohli, earlier, announced that he will leave RCB captaincy after the end of the Vivo IPL 2021 and team India’s T20I captaincy after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Every Indian cricket fan and the players want Virat Kohli to lift the T20I World Cup title before saying goodbye to the captaincy reins of the side. He himself would be up to go full-out in the upcoming tournament to end his T20I captaincy career on a high with the elusive trophy in hand.

Kohli, as the skipper of the side, will set the tempo of the team and the rest will follow his lead. He has shown good signs in the recently held IPL 2021 where he mustered 405 runs from 15 matches.

If India wants to lift the T20 World Cup 2021 title, these all aforementioned along with other players in the squad will have to fire to their utmost capacities.

This concludes the article of the top 5 Indian players to watch for in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
