Explained: The Real Reason Virat Kohli Didn’t Attend the T20 World Cup Final

One of the biggest reasons behind Virat Kohli’s absence is that he didn’t have any official role in the India vs New Zealand Final game in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

India defeated New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by 96 runs. India Men’s National Cricket Team played dominating cricket against the Kiwis, and they registered history by becoming the first team to win the title on their home soil and three-time champions to lift the T20 World Cup trophy.

However, the India vs New Zealand match was attended by several former cricketers. The former Indian captains MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma watched the full game at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both came to support the Indian team in the crucial match, and India played fantastic cricket and successfully lifted the trophy.

But one big name was missing from the venue, and his absence surprised many fans. Apart from MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, fans were expecting that Virat Kohli would also be in the IND vs NZ Final in Ahmedabad, but he didn’t come, which shocked many of the fans.

One of the biggest reasons behind Virat Kohli’s absence is that he didn’t have any official role in the India vs New Zealand Final game in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The former captains MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma were invited to attend the match because they led India to previous T20 World Cup victories.

MS Dhoni captained the Indian Team in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007, which was also the inaugural edition of the tournament. Rohit Sharma led the team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and lifted the trophy after defeating South Africa in the Final. Also, Rohit Sharma was the official Brand Ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Another possible reason might be that Virat Kohli spoke in an interview about his plans after stepping away from certain formats of the game, as he wants to spend more time with his family. Kohli has mentioned many times that family is important for him, especially after playing this much time for the country and travelling constantly to different places.

India Creates History in the Final

While Virat Kohli was not present at the stadium, The India Men’s National Cricket Team played outstanding cricket against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 Final. India scored a massive total of 255 runs in 20 overs and completely dominated the match. Sanju Samson played an exceptional knock of 89 runs, and Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fantastic spell.

Both players helped India to beat New Zealand in a high-stakes match by a huge margin of 96 runs. With this victory, India became the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles.
