The TATA IPL 2023 is approaching. The most successful team in TATA IPL history will be looking to make a comeback after a poor run in the previous two seasons. The Mumbai Indians struggled a lot in the last season as their batters weren’t clicking. Their bowlers were struggling too. We saw Daniel Sams concede 35 runs in one over against KKR! That’s how bad it had become. But by the end, the team managed to get a few wins on the trot. Here is a quick SWOT analysis of what they have done and how they stand before TATA IPL 2023:

Strengths of the Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL 2023:

Two of the top 3 Indian openers play for the Mumbai Indians. IMG SRC: BCCI

The Mumbai Indians have a good Indian batting unit. They have three of the best Indian batters. Rohit, Ishan, and Surya! The Indian batting powerhouse doesn’t get better. They also have a good set of youngsters in the form of Tilak Varma. Talking about the foreign batters, there are not many big names. But there are many exciting names. The likes of Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, and Cameron Green can win games in a matter of a few overs. If Jofra and Bumrah, both are available, then the Mumbai Indians could be called one of the greatest T20 teams ever assembled!

Weakness of the Mumbai Indians:

IMG SRC: Mumbai Indians

This is a weakness but the Mumbai Indians lack an established spinner. They have a waning Piyush Chawla and a blooming Kumar Kartikeya. Kumar Kartikeya had a great time with the ball last season, he has had a great 2022 domestic season as well, but, he can struggle at the grand stage. Piyush Chawla has a great skill set and he is aging like fine wine, but does he still have what it takes? They should have gone behind Zampa or Adil Rashid to fill this void. Even Mujeeb would have been a good option.

Opportunities of the Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL 2023:

The opportunities are for Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green. Green has a huge price tag associated with it and the media has tagged him as over-priced. But the TATA IPL 2023 gives him an opportunity to shun the noise. He can take it as a challenge and crush criticism. Rohit Sharma has an opportunity to get back into form and show that he still has the captaincy firepower left in him. Post getting named the Indian captain, the results at the big stages have not been in his favor.  TATA IPL 2023 can be his season of resurgence.

Threats to the Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL 2023:

The threat is the absence of both Jofra and Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah cannot be rushed to fitness as he is the Indian cricket team’s biggest asset. The same is the case with Jofra Archer. The England cricket team will preserve him for the ODI World Cup 2023. So, if both the national panels instruct the Mumbai management to rest these players, the Mumbai camp will be bound to listen. Jasprit is yet to come back to professional cricket. The other threat is the absence of a seasoned spinner.

Mumbai Indians Squad:

Rohit Sharma (C), Tim David, Ramandeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Jofra Archer, Jasprit Bumrah, Arjun Tendulkar, Arshad Khan, Kumar Kartikeya, Hrithik Shokeen, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal, Piyush Chawla

Expected Playing XI:

Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Cameron Green, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, Jofra Archer, Arshad Khan, Kumar Kartikeya/Piyush Chawla, Jasprit Bumrah.

Schedule of the Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL 2023:

The official schedule of the TATA IPL 2023 is yet to be released. But you can find the tentative schedule here.

Predictions for the Mumbai Indians:

The prediction for the Mumbai Indians is that they will make it to the playoffs of the TATA IPL 2023. The two-month-long duration of the IPL demands longevity. Teams that lack this attribute will struggle a lot. But the Mumbai Indians make effective use of this as they are slow starters.

X-Factor Players:

The X-Factor players for the Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL 2023 are the two tall all-rounders from Australia. They have invested 26 Crore Indian Rupees in these two assets. Tim David and Cameron Green can give the blues 4 overs every game and even if they score 30 to 40 runs at a strike rate of 170 to 200, the investment will be valued. Both these players will come in handy in crunch situations. Tim David especially as he is a big match player.
