TATA IPL 2022 is around the corner and all teams are looking to make the best of the available options. Ahmedabad franchise has picked Hardik, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill. While Lucknow Super Giants has gone for KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi. All the other teams too have finalized their retentions. With the TATA IPL 2022 to be played in India, the teams will make plans accordingly. Here is a look at the points to consider while making a team:
Ground, Pitch, and Location Will Matter in TATA IPL 2022:
The teams always need to consider facts such as ground, pitch, and location. For instance, selecting several spinners will not be beneficial for RCB as the ground is small in size. The Chinnaswami pitch has a bounce on offer and the batsmen can easily clear the boundary. However, while selecting spinners RCB must go for wrist spinners as they are more attacking than the finger spinners.
A team like Rajasthan can invest in spinners as Sawai Mann Singh Stadium is a large ground and the boundaries are not easy to clear. The same is the case for Chennai. Chennai can go for slower bowlers as the Chidambaram pitch has no pace on offer. If the pace is given, batsmen hit big! So, Chennai can use the slower pitch in their favor.
Strong Opening Options:
A team needs to have a strong opening combination if they intend to win TATA IPL 2022. Over the years, a successful team has had strong opening combinations. Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill were the dynamic combinations that revived Kolkata Knight Riders last season. Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith for CSK in 2014, Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons for Mumbai in 2015, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu for CSK in 2018, and Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa in 2014! The duo must be such that one player must take on the bowlers from the word go while the other one can take his time. Rohit Sharma and Jason Roy can make a good pair. Ishan Kishan and Jonny Bairstow can also be ideal choices.
Middle-Order With Floaters Will Help in TATA IPL 2022:
Having a rigid middle-order doesn’t work in favor of a team. Mumbai Indians over the years have gone for the combination of the Pollard and Pandya brothers. What this combination provides is flexibility. If wickets tumble early, Krunal walks in to hold the innings together. If wickets fall late and a good foundation is available, Polly and Hardik attack the opposition. A middle-order with floaters can do wonders for the team.
For every successful team, a good middle-order is a must. Dhoni, Raina, and Bravo for CSK in 2011, Glenn Maxwell and David Miller for KXIP in 2014, and Yuvraj Singh, Naman Ojha, and Ben Cutting in SRH 2016. Floaters have a big role in the shortest format of the game.
A Good Set of All-Rounders:
A good set of all-rounders is a prerequisite for any successful IPL team. A good all-rounder provides balance to the side. A 6th bowling option is a must if any of the bowlers have a bad day. A spin-bowling all-rounder or a pace-bowling one can be selected according to the home ground. Ahmedabad has wisely chosen Hardik as the Ahmedabad pitch has bounce and pace on offer. Chennai on the other hand has smartly held on to Jadeja as the pitch is slow and turns square.
The top available all-rounders are Jason Holder, Mitchell Marsh, and Shivam Dube. Any of these players can provide balance and can do both the skills well. However, players like Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes will be missed.
Pacers Who Can Bowl Well at the Beginning and Death:
Fast bowlers are an elite breed of players. They work hard on their game. Fast bowlers will certainly get big money in the TATA IPL 2022 Mega Auction. For a team to be successful, it needs bowlers with two skills. A bowler who bowls well at the death, and one who swings the ball in the beginning. Deepak Chahar and T Natarajan can form a good duo. Similarly, Ben Hilfenhaus and Dwayne Bravo did well for CSK in 2010 and 2011. Malinga and McCleneghan did extremely well for Mumbai in 2015.
For Mumbai has Bumrah already, they can go for Deepak of Hazlewood. For Punjab has Arshdeep, they will break the bank for senior Indian bowlers like Umesh Yadav and Harshal Patel.
