Rohit Sharma pumped up to lift the T20 World Cup trophy again.
Team India’s limited-overs Vice-captain Rohit Sharma is confident to lift the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 trophy and repeat the heroics again in the shortest format of cricket again. He asserted that the Indian team will give its all to defy the odds and win the tournament in the UAE.
The showpiece event of the shortest format is scheduled to commence on 17th October in the UAE and Oman.
It is noteworthy that, India under Mahendra Singh Dhoni picked up the T20 World Cup trophy in the inaugural season of the tournament, in 2007, and since then it has been a run of barren land.
On Wednesday, Sharma on his social media handles posted a picture of team India’s winning moment of ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and put up a strong note with it to clearly specify the ambitions of the team.
“Sep 24th, 2007, Johannesburg. The day when a billion dreams came true. Who would have thought back then that a relatively inexperienced, young team like ours would end up creating history!!,” wrote Rohit Sharma on his Instagram post.
Rohit Sharma, who is the frontrunner to get India’s T20 captaincy after Virat Kohli steps down, further added that the team since then has come a long way. There were several setbacks in the journey, however, the spirits of the team were strong enough to move ahead leaving behind the past.
“It’s been 14 years since, we’ve come a long way, we’ve created many more histories, we’ve had our setbacks, we struggled, but it didn’t break our spirits. Because we never give up. We give it all!!! This @icc #T20WorldCup each one of us is going to give everything to repeat history. We’re coming for it. India, let’s make it happen. I am #InItToWinIt,” he added.
The 34-years old Indian cricketer is currently leading Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2021. Though the team is not performing up to its standards, Rohit has made sure to carry on his red-ball form into white-ball cricket. He has totalled 334 runs from 10 innings at an average of 33.40 in the IPL 2021.
Talking about Rohit Sharma’s T20I records, the list with each passing day gets longer and longer. The dashing batter has plundered a massive 2,864 runs from 111 T20I innings which includes four tons and 22 half-centuries.
