Rohit Sharma fined 12 Lakh for maintaining slow over-rate during DCvsMI fixture: Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma has been handed a penalty of INR 12 Lakhs after his side failed to maintain a good over-rate in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) which they lost by four wickets in the Brabourne Stadium.

As it was the first offence committed by the Mumbai skipper INR 12 Lakhs were fined by the IPL as a warning sign. The penalty will get harsher after a team repeatedly commits the same offence.

“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” an official statement from IPL read.

As per the rules adopted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the IPL, each side must maintain an over rate of 14.11 overs per hour in the 20 overs tournament.

Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians:

Mumbai Indians (MI) lost the game against Delhi Capitals (DC) after Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav unleashed their fantastic performances at the Brabourne Stadium. The two aforementioned players whacked Mumbai bowlers for fun and chased down an above-par total of 177 runs in just 18.2 overs.

Notably, with the loss, Mumbai Indians continued their ritual of not winning the opening match since IPL 2012.

Meanwhile, seasoned spinner Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his sensational four overs spell in which he scalped three wickets.

On the other side, Mumbai Indians also had a few positives in their match. Skipper Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Ishan Kishan were in sublime touch as both the batters scored good runs for the team. While Rohit played 41 runs knock, Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 81 runs in 48 deliveries.

The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians will next appear against Sanju Samson led Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 2 at the DY Patil Stadium for their second match.
