India vs England 1st ODI: Former cricketers and renowned commentators criticised England for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first innings of the 1st ODI here at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Graeme Swann, renowned commentator and former cricketer said, “Eoin Morgan should miss a couple of games” after the visitors took additional 45 minutes to wrap the first innings.

England skipper winning the toss opted to bowl first in the first ODI. In the first hour of the play, England managed to complete just 11 overs. By the end of the next hour, England managed to bowl just half the innings.

By 5:00 PM IST the first innings must be completed but it took another 45 minutes to complete it, said Gream Swann from the commentary box in the first ODI. “At this rate, Morgan is going to have to miss a few matches.”

The first innings of the 1st ODI saw a few injuries on the ground starting with the ball hitting Rohit Sharma’s elbow, Sam Billings getting a shoulder injury to Eoin Morgan getting stitched on his palm pointed out commentator Ajit Agarkar.

“There were injuries to Rohit Sharma and Sam Billings, but in general the over rate has been pretty poor in the England series,” said Agarkar.

India and England T20I series was also enforced a few more hours due to slow over rates. 

“11 overs in an hour … One day cricket … !!!!! I have decided it’s not me getting old it’s the game that needs to bloody hurry up … #INDvsENG,” wrote on his Tweet.

In the first innings, India managed to put 317 for 5 on the board after a quickfire fifty from debutant Krunal Pandya (58* off 31) and KL Rahul (62* off 43).

Shikhar Dhawan (98 off 106) fell two short of his well crafted century in the 1st ODI while skipper Kohli scored 56 from 60 balls.

All-rounder Ben Stokes accounted for the three wickets while pacer Mark Wood grabbed two.
