Both the debutant players were included in India?s ODI squad against England after a series of blistering performances in the domestic circuits lately. Krunal Pandya smacked two unbeaten centuries and as many half-centuries in the recent 50 overs Vijay Hazare Trophy for Baroda.



The 29-years old cricketer got his T20I cap back in 2018 and till now has played 18 T20 International fixtures for India.



Kohli said at the toss: ?KL will bat at 5 and keep. Top four are Rohit, Shikhar, myself and Shreyas. Hardik bats at 6, Krunal at 7. Shardul 8, Bhuvi at 9, Prasidh and Kuldeep complete.?



The left-handed batsman was handed his ODI cap by his brother Hardik Pandya earlier today before the game.



Pandya brother?s lost their father recently and it was an immediate shock for the brothers. Krunal Pandya was seen dedicating his cap to his late father.



Prior to the ODI series, India washed England in the Test and T20I series. After a poor show in the opener of both <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/border-gavaskar-trophy-2024-when-and-where-to-watch-the-series-in-india/" title="the series" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">the series</a>, the hosts made a commendable comeback and won the series.



India and England will play the other two remaining ODIs in Pune on 26th and 28th March. This will be the end of the England tour to India.

India vs England 1st ODI: Former cricketers and renowned commentators criticised England for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first innings of the 1st ODI here at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Graeme Swann, renowned commentator and former cricketer said, ?Eoin Morgan should miss a couple of games? <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/qualification-scenario-of-india-for-the-wtc-2023-25-final-after-the-historic-test-series-lost-against-new-zealand/" title="after the" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">after the</a> visitors took additional 45 minutes to wrap the first innings.



England skipper winning the toss opted to bowl first in the first ODI. In the first hour of the play, England managed to complete just 11 overs. By the end of the next hour, England managed to bowl just half the innings.



By 5:00 PM IST the first innings must be completed but it took another 45 minutes to complete it, said Gream Swann from the commentary box in the first ODI. ?At this rate, Morgan is going to have to miss a few matches.?



The first innings of the 1st ODI saw a few injuries on the ground starting with the ball hitting <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/ind-vs-aus-no-hitman-in-bgt-reports-speculate-that-indian-skipper-rohit-sharma-might-miss-a-few-matches-in-the-border-gavaskar-trophy-search-over-deputy-continues/" title="Rohit Sharma" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">Rohit Sharma</a>?s elbow, Sam Billings getting a shoulder injury to Eoin Morgan getting stitched on his palm pointed out commentator Ajit Agarkar.



?There were injuries to Rohit Sharma and Sam Billings, but in general the over rate has been pretty poor in the England series,? said Agarkar.

In the first innings, India managed to put 317 for 5 on the board after a quickfire fifty from debutant Krunal Pandya (58* off 31) and KL Rahul (62* off 43).



Shikhar Dhawan (98 off 106) fell two short of his well crafted century in the 1st ODI while skipper Kohli scored 56 from 60 balls.



All-rounder Ben Stokes accounted for the three wickets while pacer Mark Wood grabbed two.
