Royal London One-Day Cup: Team India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been signed by English county side Lancashire for the upcoming Royal London Cup 2021 which is England’s domestic cricket tournament.

Shreyas Iyer will reach the Emirates Old Trafford, an elite stadium on Thursday, 15th July. He will join the Red Roses for a month-long league stage run in the tournament, according to Lancashire Cricket.

Till now five Indian cricketers have represented Lancashire in England’s county cricket, Farokh Engineer was the first Indian to do that. Besides him, Murali Kartik, Dinesh Mongia, V.V.S. Laxman and Sourav Ganguly have also been featured in the 50-overs tournament for Lancashire.

Shreyas Iyer after agreeing to join the Lancashire for the 2021 season of Royal London Cup said, “Lancashire is a legendary name in English Cricket with a long-standing association with Indian Cricket. I am extremely humbled and honoured to carry the legacy forward of greats like Farokh Engineer, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman at Lancashire.”

“The Emirates Old Trafford is one of the finest stadiums of cricket and I am looking forward to meeting my teammates and the supporters of the club there.”

The director of Cricket, Lancashire said “Shreyas is one of the shining lights of a new generation of Indian batsman and a leader, and we’re delighted that an opportunity to bring him to Emirates Old Trafford has presented itself.”

“With the expectation that we will be fielding a younger side in this year’s Royal London Cup due to the Hundred, it was important that we brought in a top-order batsman with experience at the highest level to enhance our prospects in the tournament.”

The Royal London One Day Cup will kickstart on 22nd July 2021. Lancashire will begin its One-day campaign on 23rd July against Sussex.
