India vs England 1st Test Match: Former English skipper Michael Vaughan slams Indian decision to leave Kuldeep Yadav behind for the first test against England. He says it will be a ridiculous decision to drop such an experienced spinner.



India showed up with three spinners for the first test against England in Ravichandran Ashwin, Shahbaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar. Rahul Chahar and Nadeem were added to the Indian squad following Axar Patels complaint of pain in his left knee ahead of the first test. Axar Patel was ruled out of the first test due to the pain on his knee.



Vaughan raised the questions, why the left-arm spinner was left behind. If he will not play in India then where will he show up?

In the meantime, after the stumps on Day 1, England is off with a powerful start. Skipper Joe Root is still unbeaten after completing his century on his 100th Test match while Dom Sibley scored 87 runs as he was given leg-before in the last ball of the day. Skipper Joe Root is unbeaten at 128 runs in 197 deliveries. 



England at the end scored 263 runs in the loss of 3 wickets. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took two scalps while Ravichandran Ashwin got one.



From here onwards, England will look to amass 200-250 more runs to get a comfortable stance against India keeping in mind the flat surface and no movement on offer. For England, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Ollie Pope and Dominic Bess are a couple of players who will follow.

India vs England: Former England skipper Michael Vaughan on Friday said the more India will prepare the pitches that are not good enough for five days test matches, the more ?toothless? ICC will look.

Vaughan further stated that the English players are batting with the surface since the last two test games.



?We have to recognise that these players are battling with their careers and the surface used have let them down.?



?I don?t understand, how someone can say that 250 is above par score in the first innings of the test match and recognise that surface as a good for test cricket.?



Vaughan slammed India?s idea to produce the rank turners after the defeat in the first game at Chennai. The surface started turning from ball one and India knows that the game won?t last more than three days.



He also blamed England?s rotation policy saying that they are keeping out the skilled and deserved player out of the important test series.?

India vs England 1st ODI: Former cricketers and renowned commentators criticised England for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first innings of the 1st ODI here at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Graeme Swann, renowned commentator and former cricketer said, ?Eoin Morgan should miss a couple of games? after the visitors took additional 45 minutes to wrap the first innings.



England skipper winning the toss opted to bowl first in the first ODI. In the first hour of the play, England managed to complete just 11 overs. By the end of the next hour, England managed to bowl just half the innings.



By 5:00 PM IST the first innings must be completed but it took another 45 minutes to complete it, said Gream Swann from the commentary box in the first ODI. ?At this rate, Morgan is going to have to miss a few matches.?



The first innings of the 1st ODI saw a few injuries on the ground starting with the ball hitting Rohit Sharma?s elbow, Sam Billings getting a shoulder injury to Eoin Morgan getting stitched on his palm pointed out commentator Ajit Agarkar.

In the first innings, India managed to put 317 for 5 on the board after a quickfire fifty from debutant Krunal Pandya (58* off 31) and KL Rahul (62* off 43).



Shikhar Dhawan (98 off 106) fell two short of his well crafted century in the 1st ODI while skipper Kohli scored 56 from 60 balls.



All-rounder Ben Stokes accounted for the three wickets while pacer Mark Wood grabbed two.

However, it is very unlikely to happen unless something terrible transpires for Mumbai Indians (MI). Rohit Sharma has had the allegiance of MI owners and the management from the start of his IPL career. He would definitely not want to move out of the franchise that he had led to five IPL titles.



The host of the show then asked, if Rohit Sharma would get booed, to which Michael Vaughan replied in a negative. 'No'. ?Then, he's playing for Chennai," he said.



The former England skipper, though, mentioned that the MI management couldn't go right with their communication with the skipper and things turned differently afterwards. 



"Hardik's going through a difficult time, and it's not his fault. He has been asked to captain Mumbai Indians; who is going to say no to that? He has been given a job that every single Indian cricketer would like to do. MI have had a tricky couple of years, I just believe the communication wasn't right.



However, Vaughan maintained that he would have retained Rohit Sharma to the top position even if Hardik Pandya was to come back to the MI setup.

Instead, they’re all about aggressive, quick wins to put the other team on the back foot. So, he believes it’s time for cricket’s bigwigs to think about shifting to a four-day format to match this new playing style.

“It’d start on a Thursday and finish on a Sunday. It would be easy for everyone to understand that Test cricket starts every Thursday and finishes on a Sunday. Let’s be honest: the way that the players go out and play their business now, they don’t play like I used to play or some of the teams back in the 80s and 90s played,” Vaughan told SEN Afternoons. 

“They’re playing a brand of cricket that is pretty much trying to win as quickly as they possibly can and put the opposition under pressure. So, I genuinely believe that the administrators around the world need to seriously consider if it’s time to go from five (days) to four,” he added. 

Due to the bowling pitches and the inability of the batters to apply themselves on the crease, test matches have typically concluded in two or three days.

Hence, Vaughan wants Test matches to be shortened so that they can attract more fans. The recent pink ball Test match between Australia and India finished within two and a half days. India was bowled out for 180 runs and 175 runs in each inning, respectively. Australia scored 337 runs in the first innings and chased down 19 runs in the second innings without losing any wickets.
