“Many Sporting giants have gone through this phase,” Rohit Sharma defends MI’s lean patch: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has defended his side’s poor performance in the ongoing edition of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 citing “many sporting giants have gone through this phase,” however, the veteran cricketer accepted that the players haven’t put their best foot forward so far in the tournament. After suffering defeat at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mumbai has become the first side to get eliminated from the Tata IPL 2022.

In a social media post, Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indian skipper, penned down a note accepting the team’s failure.

“We haven’t put our best foot forward in this tournament but that happens, many sporting giants have gone through this phase but I love this team and its environment,” wrote Rohit Sharma.

He further thanked all the MI fans for their undying support through the thick and thins of the game.

“Also want to appreciate our well-wishers who’ve shown faith and undying loyalty to this team so far.”

Mumbai’s struggle began soon after the franchise took part in the player auction 2022, held in February. Experts reckon MI’s strategy to pick Tim David, Jofra Archer and Ishan Kishan at a high price has backfired.

MI paid INR 8.25 Crores and INR 8 Crores respectively for the services of Tim David and Jofra Archer during the auctions. Meanwhile, the franchise went on to spend a whopping sum of INR 15.25 Crores to retain Ishan Kishan in the team, following several bidding wars.

Chennai Super Kings’ lean patch:

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), another IPL heavyweight, has also not performed as per the expectations pinned by the fans. The yellow brigade under the leadership of Ravindra Jadeja has endured a tough campaign in the Tata IPL 2022, having won just two out of eight matches in the tournament.

Though several interesting individual performances have come out from the Chennai lineup, however, the collective assault and aggression from the Super Kings is still awaited. CSK is placed in the penultimate position with just four rating points in eight outings.
