Jonny Bairstow

English wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022 owing to an unforeseen injury. This is an extremely tragic and ironic event as England had announced their squad for the tournament just today and Jonny Bairstow was obviously a part of it.

It is being said that he suffered a lower limb injury while playing golf. It is what many call, a ‘freak injury’. The full details about why he will not be playing in the T20 World Cup, however, will be announced shortly.

Let us have a look at England’s original squad first before discussing how much they are going to miss Jonny Bairstow.

England 2022 T20 World Cup Squad: Buttler (C), Moeen, Bairstow, Brook, Sam Curran, Jordan, Livingstone, Malan, Rashid, Salt, Stokes, Topley, Willey, Woakes, Wood.

Jonny Bairstow has transformed himself completely in the last couple of months and he has become one of England’s most essential players across all the formats of the game. He recently gave brilliant performances in the Test series against India and we already know his calibre in the shortest format of the game.

Bairstow, who prefers to open, is an explosive left-handed batsman and kind of a Sehwag-esque player. England will definitely miss him in the T20 World Cup.

On the other hand, Bairstow’s absence will be a sigh of relief for all the other teams. Jos Buttler is also a big threat in England’s batting lineup but with Jonny Bairstow out, England’s batting lineup no longer looks as dangerous.

But the question remains, who shall replace Bairstow in the squad then? Well it looks like Alex Hales will finally be getting the opportunity to play for the National side once again – something that he has been craving for years.

However, in that case, England will not have a solid wicketkeeper replacement for Jos Buttler in case of an emergency and thus they will have to take their decision wisely.
