The T20 World Cup 2024 is not many months away from now. The tournament will take place in June 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America. Eyes will be on the Indian cricket team going into the tournament as they haven’t won an ICC title since 2013.

But with T20 World Cup 2024 not that far away, there are a lot of questions that have been bothering Indian fans. There has been no clarity on what will be the combination of the team for the tournament, who will be in the team and the biggest one who will captain the team.

Since the last T20 World Cup, India has been testing and experimenting in the shortest format of the game. It’s fair to say that the same is still happening even though we are just seven months away from the tournament in the USA and the Caribbean.

Rohit Sharma, who is the all-format captain of India, hasn’t played a single T20I since the last T20 World Cup. He along with senior players including Virat Kohli has been sidelined from the format and there has been a lot speculation if they will play or not.

Recently there were reports that suggested that Rohit Sharma spoke to BCCI about his T20I future and the governing body clearly told him that want him to captain the team. The reports claimed that the opener would be captaining the team in the T20 World Cup 2024.

However, in a drastic turn of events, BCCI secretary Jay Shah made a shocking statement. Speaking on the sidelines of the Women Premier League auction, he said that no assurance can be given to Rohit Sharma on his place in the  T20 World Cup 2024.

This has raised quite a few eyebrows if Rohit Sharma will be playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 or not. Jay Shah also mentioned that they will be taking all the decisions once the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 concludes.

Jay Shah also provided a fitness update on Hardik Pandya, who injured himself during the ICC World Cup 2023. The BCCI secretary said that the all-rounder might make a return during the T20I series against Afghanistan in January.

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has been captaining the team in the T20Is. With Jay Shah giving an update on Rohit, it’s fair to say that Hardik Pandya might be a potential candidate to captain the team in the T20 World Cup 2024.
