BCCI to penalise foreign players who pulled out of Tata IPL 2022

Jason Roy pulled out of the Tata IPL 2022 citing bubble issues: English opener batsman Jason Roy has pulled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Roy cited the challenge of staying back in the bio-secure environment for an extended period of time. The cricketer has informed his decision to his IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT).

The Ahmedabad based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise acquired the English cricketer by spending a sum of INR 2 Crores (USD 266,000), which was his base price, at the recently concluded IPL auction.

Gujarat Titans (GT) is yet to finalise the replacement for the player.

Jason Roy was in a sensational form of late. He had a good outing in the recently held Pakistan Super League, where he emerged as the top run-getter for his side despite playing only a few matches.

Roy plundered 303 runs in just six matches for his franchise, Quetta Gladiators. The cricketer was also amongst the highest run-getter in the tournament with an impressive strike rate of 170. He has smacked a century and two half-centuries in his brief stay in the PSL 2022.

It must be noted that this is the second instance of Jason Roy pulling out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after getting a contract from the franchise. Earlier, in IPL 2020, Roy was purchased by Delhi Capitals for INR 1.5 Crores, however, the cricketer pulled out of the league.

Gujarat Titans (GT), one of the two new IPL teams, is likely to announce the replacement for Jason Roy in the next few weeks.

The fifteenth season of the IPL is scheduled to kickstart on 26th March and the tournament will run until May 29. As many as 74 matches will be held in between. Maharashtra is chosen as a lone state to host all the IPL matches, while for the playoffs, the top four teams are likely to head to Ahmedabad.
