IPL 2024: The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai, the home ground of the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is all set to host the IPL 2024 final on May 26th, along with a qualifier match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be continuing the tradition of letting the opening game and the final of the next season take place at the home ground of the winners of the previous IPL season. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the home ground of last season’s runners-up, the Gujarat Titans, will be playing host to the eliminator and the other qualifier matches.
“The Governing Council of the IPL will be following the tradition of hosting the opening match and the final at the home ground of the previous season’s winners, in this case the Chennai Super Kings,” a BCCI official told PTI. Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium played host to the IPL final in the last two seasons as the Titans were the winners of IPL 2022, and IPL 2022 wasn’t played in the usual home and away format.
IPL 2022 winners, the Gujarat Titans, will be kicking off their IPL 2024 campaign today against the Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad. The Titans will be led by Shubman Gill as Hardik Pandya joins the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash trade deal this year. The Gujarat-based team will also be missing the services of their main bowler, Mohammed Shami, who got ruled out of IPL 2024 due to a right heel surgery that he underwent recently. The Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, will be the team to beat despite MS Dhoni not captaining them this year in what is probably his final IPL season. The Men in Yellow began their IPL 2024 season on a winning note, having defeated RCB in the opening game.
But, the schedule for the rest of the matches of IPL 2024 is yet to be revealed, but according to a report from PTI, the remaining schedule should be out in the next few days. Given that the dates of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections have been announced, the schedule for the remaining matches should reportedly be announced after April 7.
