IPL 2023: KKR sign England’s Jason Roy as replacement for Shreyas Iyer: Star England opener Jason Roy has once again found a way to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he has been roped by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the IPL 2023. Roy will replace KKR captain Shreyas Iyer for the remainder of the ongoing Tata IPL 2023.

Interestingly, KKR signed England’s Jason Roy for a price of INR 2.8 Crores, while his base price was INR 1.5 Crores.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is yet to make an official announcement, but the development was confirmed by Indian Premier League (IPL) officials.

Notably, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer has suffered a lower back injury and is now completely ruled out of the Tata IPL 2023. Earlier, Iyer was expected to make a comeback during the later phase of the tournament, but his injury is quite serious and requires immediate treatment. Unfortunately, along with the IPL 2023, Shreyas Iyer will also not be able to compete in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 Final in England against Australia.

In another blow to KKR, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has opted out of the IPL 2023. The reasons for his unavailability are still undisclosed.

Though Jason Roy is a huge name in international cricket, he hasn’t been able to settle his nerves in the IPL. The England right-handed batter has previously featured for KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His most recent IPL appearance came during IPL 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which turned out to be mediocre. The explosive batter could only score 150 runs including a half-century in five games.

Jason Roy’s overall stats in the IPL looks pretty underwhelming. In 13 IPL matches across seasons for four different franchises, Roy could only score 329 runs at an average of 29.90. His strike rate isn’t encouraging either, which reads 129.01.

Talking about his T20I stats, Jason Roy has featured in 64 T20Is for England in which the opener has scored over 1500 runs at a strike rate of 137.61. The batter has scored 8 half-centuries in the process.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost their opening fixture of the IPL 2023 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the rain-marred contest. KKR fell seven runs short to match PBKS’ score in the DLS method. Their next assignment is against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens on 6th April 2023.
