IPL 2023 Auction: Gujarat Titans (GT) Release, Retains and Probable Players List, Squad all you know: Gujarat Titans (GT) were crowned winners of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) season fifteen in their maiden stint as a franchise. The debutant franchise had a near-perfect season in the IPL 2022 as they toppled inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the final to fetch the IPL glory.
However, things were not the same for Gujarat right from the start. The franchise was amidst criticism for its bizarre selection of players. Moreover, the franchise was mocked heavily for handing over the reins to Hardik Pandya who had absolutely no prior captaincy experience.
But battling the odds and rising from zero, Gujarat Titans (GT) went on to win big and it was indeed bigger for a franchise that was just making its debut in the cash-rich Indian T20 league.
Gujarat picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill as its top three player drafts. With three world-class players, the core was set for the Titans. The rest of the work was done at the auction table where GT went on to bag the services of Lokie Ferguson (10 Cr), Rahul Tweatia (9 Cr) and Mohammad Shami (6.25 Cr).
GT picked up their pace with back-to-back wins in the IPL 2022. The franchise notched up eight victories in the first nine matches and eventually became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The franchise continued its healthy performance and remained at the top of the points table which gave them two chances to reach the final, but they were too good to bag the opportunity in the first match itself.
Gujarat defeated Rajasthan in the qualifier 1 and then again thumped Sanju Samson-led RR in the final to put their authority in the IPL 2022 title.
Hardik Pandya and his troops endured a campaign devoid of flaws in the recently held IPL 2022. The debutant franchise will surely look back to the season and see how they performed and what better they can do to it.
Now being the defending champions, Gujarat will look to defend its title by making it twice in a row. However, ahead of that, GT will have to undergo the auction process. The franchise will release a few players and get some new faces on the team.
