IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap - Updated on 28th April

IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match number 40 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Wednesday, 27th April. The intense clash between GT and SRH was pulled off by the Gujarat Titans, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in a last-ball nail-biter.

For the first time in the tournament, Sunrisers Hyderabad had to bat first and defend a total. SRH once again produced a batting masterclass as young Abhishek Sharma and experienced Aiden Markram scored half-centuries apiece. Abhishek Sharma scored a 42-ball 65 during his stay at the crease while Markram played a 40-ball 56 runs knock.

To finish things off for SRH, Shashank Singh tonked Gujarat Titans to 25 runs in mere six deliveries and helped SRH post a total of 195 runs against GT.

Gujarat Titans (GT) had a fantastic opening partnership and the franchise yielded fruitful results during the powerplay. However, SRH express pacer Umran Malik had other plans.

Soon after he was introduced for his first spell by Kane Williamson, Malik scalped the wicket of Shubman Gill at a score of 69 runs. Skipper Hardik Pandya, who came at three, was also sent back cheaply by Umran Malik in his second over.

GT wicketkeeper batter Wriddhiman Saha was looking in complete control, however, a 153 kmph thunderbolt yorker from Umran Malik’s levers did the job for SRH. Saha departed after scoring 68 runs in 35 deliveries.

Malik then went on to pick the wickets of David Miller and Abhinav Manohar and completed his maiden fifer in the Indian Premier League. His five crucial wickets gave much-needed assistance to the SRH to remain in the game.

Despite valiant efforts from Umran Malik, Gujarat won the match, courtesy, some late blitz inning from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan. Both the mentioned batters tonked 48 runs in the last two overs and sealed the match for their team. Rahul Tewatia scored 40 off 21 while Rashid Khan collected 31 off 11.
