Gary Kirsten likely to step down from Gujarat Titans head coach role after IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans (GT) mentor and batting coach Gary Kirsten is reportedly willing to step down from his coaching role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise after the conclusion of the ongoing season. The reports further asserted that Kirsten would subsequently take up the coaching duties in the England Men’s National side.

Gary Kirsten was roped in by one of the two new IPL teams, Gujarat Titans, for the role of mentor and batting coach ahead of the ongoing Tata IPL 2022. Kirsten is working alongside Ashish Nehra (head coach) and Vikram Solanki (director of cricket).

Notably, England Men’s head coach seat was left vacant after the ECB sacked Chris Silverwood following England’s successive defeats in the high profile clashes. As of now, Paul Collingwood has been appointed as the interim head coach, however, the ECB is unlikely to hand him a permanent contract.

If the reports are to be believed, the talks between the former South African cricketer, Gary Kirsten, and England Cricket Board’s managing director, Rob Key have advanced to a certain level. The announcement of England’s new head coach is likely to be made in a couple of weeks’ time.

According to the Daily Mail, Kirsten is willing to end his tenure as Gujarat Titans mentor and batting coach following the end of the Tata IPL 2022.

Kirsten would be available for ECB only after the completion of the Tata IPL 2022. Gujarat Titans (GT) are doing exceedingly well in the tournament and will secure their place in the playoffs of Tata IPl 2022. In all likelihood, Kirsten would miss the opening test between England and New Zealand, starting June 2.

In addition to that, premier all-rounder Ben Stokes is highly probable to take up the leadership role in England’s Test side following Joe Root’s quit. The former England skipper voluntarily stepped down from England test captaincy a couple of weeks ago after he faced severe criticism and heat from the fans for England’s poor performance in the test cricket.

Ben Stokes, who was Joe Root’s deputy in the English test side, is now all set to don the skipper’s hat. While Gary Kirsten would be England’s new head coach.
