IPL 2022 season is almost coming to an end. Today evening we will see an encounter between two of the most successful teams in the IPL. The Sunrisers Hyderabad will be taking on the Mumbai Indians. These are two teams that do not belong to the same pool. Hyderabad hasn’t played Mumbai earlier this season. This will be the first encounter between both teams. Hyderabad will be keen on getting a victory as they need to get their campaign back on track and need to qualify for the playoffs. They have been on a 4-match losing streak.  

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians will be looking to try out a few more options. Kieron Pollard might be given game time to find his form back. Tristan Stubbs might get one more game. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma will be looking to go all-guns-blazing.

IPL 2022, Mumbai Indians: Analysis 

The Mumbai Indians have already had a dreadful campaign. The only silver line for this team is the arrival of a few young superstars. Tilak Varma has been mighty impressed with the bat and so has Dewald Brevis. They are not playing Brevis much as they want to keep him unexposed. Kumar Kartikeya Singh has also impressed with his spin bowling abilities. Riley Meredith is another bowler who has given value for money.  

The problem this season with the Mumbai Indians was the experienced players being out of form. The presence of an in-form Kieron Pollard wasn’t to be seen. Polly is having a tough phase in his career but one can never forget him as he is the face of the Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are also looking out of touch. Rohit did show some signs of form but the vintage Ro-Hitman wasn’t visible. The team however is coming off after a thumping victory over the Chennai Super Kings and will be keen to keep the momentum going.

IPL 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad: Analysis 

Sunrisers Hyderabad is in a state of a dilemma with the form of Kane Williamson. He has had a pretty average season. He has had a season poorer than David Warner has last season. But the flip side of the coin is that the SRH management has to back him because they do not have any other suitable leadership candidate on the team. They have Glenn Phillips on the sidelines but his services can alone be availed by dropping Kane. The batting in the middle-order has been decent but it majorly revolves around Rahul Tripathi. Pooran has to step up big time.  

With regards to their bowling, the team looks sorted. Umran Malik will be keen on clocking the unreal pace he does, once more. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan have also got the job done when it matters the most. Their bowling is not the concern. Their inability to chase scores bigger than 170 is costing them the games. They are failing to capitalize during the crunch situations. The silver line for them is the presence of Abhishek Sharma and the kind of form he is in. Washington Sundar is back and that will give them a big boost.

IPL 2022: MI VS SRH Probable Top Performers: 

Probable Best Batter of the Match: Rohit Sharma. 

Rohit Sharma is not in the prime of form but I have a gut feeling that the law of averages will come into play. The game is at the Wankhede which is a stadium that Rohit knows very well. Rohit has not been in the finest of touch but the Wankhede pitch has some bounce and pace on offer. It is a batter’s paradise. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be looking to implement the strategy of playing the spinner in the powerplay overs. Washington Sundar and Aiden Markram might be the ones bowling to Rohit Sharma in the initial part of the innings.  

Rohit is now leading the Mumbai Indians that have nothing to lose. It is a team that has already been knocked out and will be looking to spoil the party of the others. A fearless lion is the most dreaded one and that is the case with Rohit Sharma. He will be looking to go all-guns-blazing in today’s game. Vintage Rohit is expected to make a comeback.  

Probable Best Bowler of the Match: T Natarajan. 

T Natarajan and Umran Malik have taken responsibility and have carried the bowling of the Sunrisers on their shoulders. Both of them have scalped 18 wickets in the league this season. T Natarajan has the knack for picking wickets. He is exceptional in the death overs. From playing night games for 300 rupees to playing in the IPL, he has come a long way.  

Natarajan has been associated with the Sunrisers since 2019 and has become the new face of their bowling unit. Ravi Shastri in a recent interview said, “He was missed by Team India at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, had he been available and injury-free the outcome could have been different.” Now that speaks volumes of the belief that the team management has in him.

Mumbai Indians to win the game.  

The Mumbai Indians last season as well became a very dominant team when their chances for the playoffs were narrowed down to zero. Last season their last game was against the Sunrisers and the Mumbai team scored 235 runs. The men in blue will walk in fearlessly and are expected to dominate the game. Their batters are going to be the key.
