The IPL 2022 was dreadful for the Mumbai Indians. The team lost 8 games on the trot which eventually knocked them out of the tournament. Mumbai Indians registered themselves in the unwanted history books by losing these 8 games. However, every dark cloud has a silver lining. Similarly, Mumbai Indians and their dreadful campaign also have a silver lining. There are a few positives for the champion team. Here is an in-depth look at the 3 positives for the Mumbai Indians:

IPL 2022: N Tilak Varma the Shining Star:

This 19-year-old left-hander has taken the cricketing world by storm. His innings against the Rajasthan Royals was a very mature inning. At the age of 19, Tilak has many years ahead of him. He can be the find of this season too. Tilak has scored 3 fifties so far and his timing has been too good. Where the senior players have failed to score, Tilak has scored very well. Also, his strike rate hovers at 135-140 which makes him a complete package. Tilak also offers 1 or 2 overs of spin on a good day. His work in the field also is noteworthy. So far, Tilak Varma has scored 307 runs and is placed 4th in the list of leading run-getters.

The Form of Suryakumar Yadav:

Suryakumar Yadav missed the first 3 games but took to the field from the 4th game onwards. His form has been exquisite ever since. It is because of Surya that Mumbai Indians were effectively competing in the tournament. If Surya would have failed their campaign would’ve become more miserable. The kind of impact that Surya has had with the bat cannot be matched. Playing only 7 games, Surya is placed 6th in the list of leading run-scorers. He has batted at a strike rate of 147 and an average of almost 50. He has been the lone warrior apart from Tilak at times. Mumbai showed faith in him and retained him over Hardik and Ishan and this move has worked very well.

A Group of Talented Young Players:

Mumbai has always believed in nurturing the youth for the future. This has been carried forward this season too. Mumbai has formed a core group of amazing youngsters. It begins with N Tilak Varma, and Dewald Brevis, and ends with Hrithik Shokeen, and Mayank Markande. This same team will be dreadful next season when they will have Jofra in the mix too. So, compromising one season, the Mumbai team has built a team for the future.
