ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 points table: England becomes the third team to qualify for the semi-final, India hang by a thread

After match 20, IND vs ENG, England joined South Africa and Australia and became the third team to qualify for the semi-final.

After two back-to-back losses, India were expected to make a strong comeback in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. However, that didn’t happen as England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and qualified for the semi-final.

The game took place at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday and saw a cracker of a game, where England, after being asked to bat, piled up 288 for eight. India were right there in the chase but succumbed to pressure in the last two overs, losing the game by four runs.

England openers in Tammy Beaumont (22) and Amy Jones (56) gave a tough time to the Indian bowlers right from the start. They made full use of the power play and added 73 runs for the opening partnership. The introduction of Deepti Sharma then changed things for India as she removed both openers.

However, England made sure that they didn’t let India take the momentum as Heather Knight (109) and skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (38) gave more trouble to the bowlers, adding 113 runs for the third wicket. But their handwork in the middle overs got wasted as the lower-order failed to finish on a high.

England finished with 288 for eight and for India, Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of four for 51.

India were jolted early in the chase as Pratika Rawal perished early for six and soon after that, Harleen Deol (24) fell as the hosts were reduced to 42 for two. With the team under pressure, seniors in Smriti Mandhana (88) and Harmanpreet Kaur (70) stepped up.

Both looked in glorious touch and put England under pressure with their 125 runs for the third wicket. The senior pros slammed vital fifties but failed to take their team home. Deepti Sharma (50) added some firepower and it seemed that India would chase it easily.

However, England made a terrific comeback in the last two overs and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. They won the game by four runs and qualified for the semi-final.
