IND vs AUS: Streak broken! India bags an unwanted feat after their loss against Australia in Perth

The Indian Cricket Team achieved an unwanted feat in the ODIs in 2025. Their streak of winning all the games in the 50-over format this year has been ended and this came after the Shubman Gill-led side faced a poor defeat against the Australia Cricket Team. 

Australia started the three-match ODI series against India on a high as they registered a dominating win in the first game at Perth Stadium in Perth on Sunday. In a game that was reduced to 26 overs, India, who were asked to bat, managed just 136 for nine. Due to the DLS, the target was revised to 131, which Australia chased with seven wickets in hand. 

The excitement to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back was short-lived for fans as both got out early. Skipper Shubman Gill and his deputy Shreyas Iyer also struggled as India were left at 45 for four. The rain breaks also didn't help India as they couldn't settle in properly. 

With the team under pressure, Axar Patel (31), who was promoted up the order played a vital hand. KL Rahul (38), at six, also played a vital hand before debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy (19*) finished the innings on a high as India ended with 136 for nine. 

This India’s first loss in the ODIs after 8 straight games 

Chasing the target, Travis Head became a victim of Arshdeep Singh early but skipper Mitchell Marsh (46*) on the other hand went hard at the Indian bowlers. Matthew Short also fell early but keeper-batter Josh Philippe (37) acted as a great support to Marsh and took the game away from India. 

The Philippe-Marsh duo added 55 runs for the third wicket, putting India under pressure. Marsh stayed unbeaten in the end as Australia chased the target with seven wickets in hand. 

This was India’s first loss in the ODIs after 8 straight games. They would now be keen to make a strong comeback and win the second game to keep the series alive. The match will be played on October 23 at Adelaide Cricket Stadium in Adelaide.
