Gautam Gambhir joins Lucknow based IPL team as a mentor in the IPL 2022: Former Indian world cup winning batsman Gautam Gambhir has been confirmed to join the newly inducted Lucknow based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. Gambhir has signed a contract with the franchise to be the team’s mentor for the IPL 2022. The development was confirmed by Sanjiv Goenka, Lucknow franchise owner, to leading cricket news portal Cricbuzz on Saturday 18th December.

Gambhir was named the team’s mentor following the official confirmation of Andy Flower, who has been appointed Lucknow team’s head coach.

The two times IPL winning captain for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 and 2014, Gautam Gambhir will work closely with the head coach and other members of the management at the backroom of the franchise to groom the players. Gambhir will predominantly have an advisory role in the franchise.

“Gambhir brings with him a proven track record in the IPL as captain for KKR. He also has a penchant for grooming young talent which Lucknow feels will suit them well ahead of what is expected to be a tough initiation into an increasingly competitive IPL scenario,” sources in the know of the development said.

It is further learnt that Gambhir and Sanjeev Goenka were friends for a long time and their association became formal once RPSG Group won the bid for the Lucknow IPL franchise for a whopping INR 7090 Crores.

“Once the team was bought by Mr Goenka, the relationship became formal and professional,” said a common friend on the Gambhir-Goenka partnership.

Gautam Gambhir has impeccable techniques:

The former Indian cricketer holds impeccable records as a batsman. Keeping his statements aside, Gambhir has always been a saviour for the team during the hour of need. He used to be the dogged batsman of his time who time and again proved his worth by performing in crucial do-and-die matches for India.

With his sound tactical brain and impeccable technique, he led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to its only two IPL titles in the year 2012 and 2014.

Gautam Gambhir thanked the franchise owners and the whole group for having him on board in the franchise as a mentor.

“Thanks a lot to Dr Goenka and the RPSG Group for presenting me this wonderful opportunity in their setup. The fire to win a contest still burns bright inside me, the desire to leave a winner’s legacy still kicks me 24×7. I will not be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of Uttar Pradesh,” said Gautam Gambhir.

With both Gambhir and Andy Flower in the team’s backroom, Lucknow is now targeting KL Rahul who is vividly considered as the powerful captaincy contender. Though nothing of such sorts is official now, the rumours earlier indicated that Rahul might join the franchise.
