Eyes on Babar & Rizwan! Pakistan Probable Squad for T20 World Cup 2026

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to announce the Pakistan Squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in a few days. The Deadline for the preliminary squad announcement is on January 07, 2026 however, PCB already announced the squad for the Sri Lanka Tour, but interestingly, there are no Babar Azam and Mohd. Rizwan.

India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and the tournament will be played from February 07 to March 08, 2026. Pakistan are placed in Group A, alongside India, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia. The India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2206 match will be played on February 15, 2026, at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

But, the biggest talking point around the Pakistan Squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 is whether Babar Azam and Mohd. Rizwan will be part of the team or not. Both the key players of the Pakistan National Cricket Team were dropped earlier due to poor form, but Pakistan’s recent performances without them have raised concerns.

PCB’s Tough Call: Youth vs Experience

The teams like India and Australia have settled the T20 squad while Pakistan are still searching for the right combination. Pakistan’s T20 Team is highly dependent on the performance of a few players, and their consistency is also a big concern.

The Selectors now face a tough decision whether to stick with youngsters or bring back senior players like Babar Azam and Mohd. Rizwan. It is expected that they will bring back these players if Pakistan doesn’t perform well against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will play a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on January 7, 9, and 11 in Dambulla. This series will be very crucial for both teams to test their bench strength and combinations before the T20 World Cup 2026.

Interestingly, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been left out of the Sri Lanka series squad, while Shadab Khan has made a comeback after recovering from injury. Shaheen Shah Afridi has also been rested due to fitness issues.
