Rawalpindi(Pakistan): Pakistan started their World Cup campaign for the 2023 ODI Word Cup on 30th October against Zimbabwe. Pakistan and Zimbabwe will play 3 matches ODI series in Pakistan. The first match of <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/border-gavaskar-trophy-2024-when-and-where-to-watch-the-series-in-india/" title="the series" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">the series</a> was played on 30th October in Rawalpindi while the other two will also be hosted at the same venue on Sunday and Tuesday.

<a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/shaheen-shah-afridi-of-pakistan-reclaims-no-1-spot-in-odi-bowling-rankings-updated-icc-player-rankings/" title="Shaheen Shah Afridi" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">Shaheen Shah Afridi</a> led Pakistanis to a thriller win against Zimbabwe by taking 5 wicket haul in the first ODI. While Wahab Riyaz took 4 wickets to support his counterpart in the victory.&nbsp;



Shaheen Afridi a young talent and the next big thing for Pakistan Cricket (as they say) looked controlled throughout the innings, while other bowlers faced difficulty. The young pacer put Zimbabwe?s batting lineup to backfoot by dismissing Brian Chari(2 runs) and skipper Chamu Chibhabha (13 runs) earlier in the powerplays itself.&nbsp;



Brendon Taylor stood at the other end stood strongly, and made 71 runs crucial partnership with Craig Ervine( 41 runs ). But Imad Wasim opened his account of wickets by dismissing Craig Ervine in 21st over.&nbsp;



Brendon Taylor looked in good touch and completed his 11 ODI century with an overthrow and raised his bat, standing ovations all over Zimbabwe dugout.



Wesley Madhevere also contributed with the bat scoring a well-directed half-century to guide his team close to the target.



As the game progressed and death overs came, the table turned down for Zimbabwe. Shaheen Shah Afridi started his new spell and damaged the opposition to a whole new extent. He first took the wicket of well set Brandon Taylor(112 off 117) and then dismissed Tendai Chisoro(5 off 6) and Carl Mumba(1 off 3) in quick succession.



Wahab Riyaz also showed his skills by dismissing Sean Williams (4 off 14), Wesley Madhevere( 55 off 61), Sikandar Raza (8 off 7) and Blessing Muzarbani(5 off 6).



For Pakistan, Harris Sohail scored 71 off 82 while opener Imam-Ul-Haq scored 58 off 75 before he gets run out. Abid Ali contributed with 21 runs in 30 balls.&nbsp;



A lot of expectations were from Debutant Skipper of Pakistan, <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/tag/babar-azam/" title="Babar Azam" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="tag" data-rule-id="0">Babar Azam</a> but this wasn?t the right matchup for him. He was dismissed by Muzarabani before he could do some damage to Zimbabwe. Babar Azam scored 19 runs of 18 deliveries.



Muzarabani took 2 crucial wickets of Babar Amaz and Faheem Ashraf, while Tendai Chiroso also took 2 wickets of wicket-keeper Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed. Mumba and Raza took one wicket each to restrict <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/pak-vs-eng-pakistan-won-a-home-test-series-after-3-long-years-noman-ali-and-sajid-khan-share-39-wickets-across-2-tests-to-bring-smiles-to-the-pakistani-faces/" title="the Pakistani" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">the Pakistani</a> side to 281 - 8 in 50 overs.

 I just tried to bat deep and build some partnerships which we did. But their skill level at the death made it very difficult for us. I feel very lucky to get this, Shaheen should get it (MoM award). Tried to scrape it through, but they were too good in the end. He (Wesley Madhevere) is a new kid on the block, he's 20 years old, bowls well, bats well, incredible fielder, bright future and lovely kid as well. The wicket had a bit of pace in it when they hit the shiny side. We were up against four very good seam bowlers, you have to be on your game to come up against them. Unfortunately, we were a little bit shot. Too many of them (centuries) in losing causes, I would like to get team over once in a while. It's always good to get a hundred for your country. I gave it everything and came up short.



<h3>Chamu Chibhabha | Zimbabwe captain: </h3>



Bit frustrating. We did everything right except getting over the line. BT batted really well. The Pakistan bowlers bowled very well to put us under pressure towards the end, credit to their bowlers. The wicket was a bit tacky and it was hard for the Pakistan openers upfront. Our bowlers did well, hit the right areas, put the Pakistani batters under pressure. We let it slip a bit towards the ends but we did well to restrict them to 281. (Takeaways from this game) Brendan's 100 and the way Wesley played was brilliant, he's a good prospect for Zimbabwe cricket. We need to find a way to get over the line. It's more of a psychological thing. It's not about coming out and hitting more balls in the nets, it's just a psychological thing ... the belief that we can do it.



<h3>Babar Azam | Pakistan skipper: </h3>



We were expecting that it would be a close game. Taylor batted really well and we knew it would be challenging. Very happy with the win, we will reflect on where we went wrong today and come back strong in the next game. The batters know the conditions and we couldn't finish well and didn't post the target we had in mind. The ball comes on nicely under lights and the first innings was slightly two-paced and our batters didn't really adjust to the conditions well. Both (Shaheen and Wahab) were outstanding today, they bowled well with the new ball and bowled well at the death too. The plan is to give chances to youngsters and utilise them as much as we can. In the next few games there could be a few changes in the team.

Rawalpindi: Blessing?s Five-for in the second innings of the game and two more wickets in the Super Over helped Zimbabwe pull out a thriller in their favor. The last ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe was a complete thriller to watch. The match comprises of two five-fors and two centuries collectively from both sides. The three-match <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/pak-vs-aus-pakistan-script-history-as-they-clinch-the-odi-series-2-1-for-the-1st-time-in-22-years-in-australia-win-the-3rd-odi-by-8-wickets/" title="ODI series" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">ODI series</a> is wrapped now, Pakistan had already sealed the series by winning the first two games.&nbsp;



Pakistan and Zimbabwe will now look forward to play a three-match <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/ind-vs-sa-herschelle-gibbs-predicts-the-result-of-the-t20i-series-harsh-pill-to-swallow-as-an-indian-fan-before-the-third-t20-match-to-be-played-today/" title="T20I series" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20I series</a> starting from Saturday.



Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers from Zimbabwe could not settle down in the powerplays. They lost three wickets in just 22 runs, which includes the wicket of skipper Chamu Chibhabha, Brian Chari and Craig Ervine.&nbsp;

Follow-up from hosts has not been up to the mark. Zimbabwe reduced <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/pak-vs-eng-pakistan-won-a-home-test-series-after-3-long-years-noman-ali-and-sajid-khan-share-39-wickets-across-2-tests-to-bring-smiles-to-the-pakistani-faces/" title="the Pakistani" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">the Pakistani</a> side to 20- 3 in just 3.1 overs. Babar Azam, Pakistani skipper had shown some intent with the bat while no other batsman were able to settle down.&nbsp;



The wicketkeeper-batsman Brendan Taylor and experienced Sean Williams built a good partnership, both the batsman took Zimbabwe past 106 runs in 25 overs. Mohamad Husnain got Brendan Taylor(56 from 68) in 25.1 over.&nbsp;



Sean Williams stitched a small partnership with Madhevere(33 from 31) before he was picked by Mohammad Hasnain. Sikandar Raza scored 45 runs off 36 balls. Sean Williams completed his well constructed <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/tag/century/" title="century" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="tag" data-rule-id="0">century</a>, which took his side to 278 - 5 in 50 overs.



Mohamad Husnain was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as he returned with 5 wickets in his bag while Wahab Riyaz picked one.



Zimbabwe was able to pick wickets at regular intervals to put constant pressure on Pakistan. Khusdil Shah scored 33 runs off 48 balls, while Wahab Riyaz managed to get to his half-century before getting dismissed by Muzarabani. Babar Azam under pressure completed his century and got out on 49th over off Muzarabani scoring 125 from 125 balls.

The match ended as a tie and Super Over was played. Pakistan only managed to get two runs, thanks to Muzarabani who picked two more wickets in Super Over.&nbsp;



While no other batsman was able to cross 20 run mark for their side. Blessing Mazarabani picked a five-for for his side. Richard Ngarava and Donald Tiripano got two wickets each.



Zimbabwe closed the game in just three balls scoring three runs to clinch a thriller.



The series was already won by Pakistan. However, Zimbabwe managed to open up its score with two points in World Cup Super League.&nbsp;

Earlier, toss favoured Zimbabwe in the 1st T20I, Zimbabwe decided to bat first. Mohd. Husnain pulled Zimbabwe?s skipper, Chibhabha for a duck in the very first over. Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams took the visitors past 30 runs in 4 overs. Brendan Taylor was picked by Haris Rauf in the 5th over.&nbsp;



Madhevere unbeaten 70 took Zimbabwe to 156 runs total in 20 overs. Madhevere looked in control and was a delight to watch. Sean Williams added 25 runs while some hard-hitting from Chigumbura, scoring 21 from 13 balls which includes 2 boundaries and a six.



For Pakistan Haris Rauf and Riaz picked two wickets each, while Mohd. Husnain and Usman Qadir took one wicket each.



<h4>Pakistan:</h4>



In pursuit of 156 runs in 20 overs, Pakistan had a decent opening partnership of 36 runs with Fakhar Zaman and skipper <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/tag/babar-azam/" title="Babar Azam" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="tag" data-rule-id="0">Babar Azam</a>. Blessing Muzarabani picked Fakhar Zaman in 4th over.

Babar Azam played the match-winning knock for Pakistan, scoring 82 runs from 55 balls including 9 fours and a six, proved why he is the most elegant white-ball batsmen in modern cricket. Mohd. Hafeez contributed 36 from 32 balls to reach a total of 156. Pakistan reached the total in 18.5 overs, making the good chase comfortable.



For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarabani took 2 wickets while Tendai Chatara and Richard Ngarava picked one each.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and England and Wales Cricket Board (<a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/tag/ecb/" title="ECB" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="tag" data-rule-id="0">ECB</a>) confirmed the news on Wednesday with the fans. The English players will arrive at the Southern port city, Karachi on October 12 to play the two-match T20I series.



Both the teams will play two back to back games on 14th October and 15th October because of the <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/womens-t20-world-cup-2024-australia-eliminated-as-south-africa-stun-them-in-the-1st-semi-final/" title="T20 World Cup" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20 World Cup</a> in 2021. After the back to back games, both the squads will fly to India on 16th October for the T20 World cup 2021.



The historic series between the two was initially scheduled for January 2021 but due to costs and availability of players, it got postponed until October 2021.

?The Pakistan Cricket Board expects that England?s short tour will encourage visitors and showcase their ability to host International Matches in the 2022-23 season.?



?In the short tour of October 2021, England?s leading players will allow access and examine the world-class arrangements. This will further encourage them to return not only in the 2022-23 season but also gain interest in Pakistan Super League,? PCB chief executive Wasim Khan.



 The last time both the teams met on Pakistani soil in 2005 for three test matches and five ODI games. However, PCB wanted England players to visit again but it could not be possible due to security concerns of the players. The subsequent series between Pakistan and England in 2012 and 2015 was held at UAE (Neutral Venue).

All three T20Is will be held at different venues with all the safety precautions. The first one will be at Eden Park, Auckland on 18th December while the second and third are set to be played at Seddon Park, Hamilton ( 20th December), and McLean Park, Napier (22th December).



The pacer, Loki Ferguson had earlier pulled out of the series after the scan suggested bone stress injury on his lumbar spine. His further availability will be subjected to the next assessment and scan results.

Pakistan and New Zealand are scheduled to play three-game T20I series and two Test games to end the tour. The tour will begin with T20Is on December 18, Friday.
