CSK pacer Adam Milne ruled out of Tata IPL 2022, Matheesha Pathirana comes in as replacement: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have dealt another blow as their premier overseas pacer Adam Milne has been ruled out of the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) season fifteen. Milne picked up a hamstring injury during CSK’s opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Meanwhile, the defending champions have roped in young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana as Milne’s replacement. Pathirana was part of Sri Lanka’s U-19 World Cup squad in 2020 and 2022.

“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament,” wrote Indian Premier League (IPL) in a statement released earlier today.

Matheesha Pathirana, who is widely reckoned as junior Lasith Maliga because of his sling action, was part of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) reserves in the 2020 IPL.

Pathirana hails from Trinity College of Kandy whose alumni includes Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lankan legendary batter and current head coach of Rajasthan Royals.

Notably, this is CSK’s second setback of the season. Earlier ace pacer Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the Tata IPL 2022 after suffering a back injury while he was undergoing a rehabilitation program for his quadriceps tear at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore.

Following Milne’s exit, CSK’s death bowling looks scanty and extremely vulnerable. In fact, CSK has been leaking a lot of runs during the death overs, which has been a concern for them.

The likes of Mukesh Choudhary, Chris Jordan, Tushar Deshpande, Dwayne Bravo and Dwaine Pretorius have been unable to perform efficiently during the slog overs.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in tonight’s match in the DY Patil Sports Academy ground. Both the big franchises haven’t been able to unleash their best in the tournament.

CSK is placed in the penultimate position in the points table with just a single win, while the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians couldn’t even open their account and have lost six straight matches in the tournament. MI is placed at the bottom of the points table.
