As per the reports available, the Indian cricket board want the Indian tournament to be held in India only. Three premier Mumbai stadiums namely – Wankhede, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium – are likely to host the league stage matches of the IPL 2022. The reports further informed that the playoff matches are likely to be shifted to Ahmedabad.

The BCCI wants to reduce excessive travelling in this particular edition of the IPL to diminish the chances of players getting infected with COVID-19. The idea behind hosting IPL league stage games in Mumbai is to minimise travelling and provide a safe bio-bubble for the cricketers to perform.

However, the board is still monitoring the covid situation in the country closely and wants to take its time to zero onto a solid decision. The final call will be taken by the officials after they get a comprehensive idea of the situation in India.

As of now, the BCCI has put all the concerned authorities on standby which include the authorities of Mumbai Cricket Association along with Maharashtra Cricket Association.

Recently, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, informed that the IPL franchise owners and all the other stakeholders of the IPL are of the view to hosting the IPL in India only.

It must be noted that Cricket South Africa, recently, came up with a proposal to schedule the entire IPL 2022 in the Rainbow nation. The Protea cricket board opined that the hosting charges in South Africa will be way cheaper than it was in UAE, last year.

Moreover, the cricket board promised to minimise air travel as the four stadiums around Johannesburg will be used to host the IPL matches. Also, the logistics cost will be extremely minute as compared to the UAE.
