Yuzvendra Chahal disappointed with RCB, says, “They didn’t ask whether I wanted to be retained”.

Seasoned spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has opened up on his emotional exit from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) following his long 8 years of association with the IPL franchise. Chahal parted ways with RCB during the Tata IPL 2022 mega auction, where he was eventually picked by Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The Indian spinner in his recent conversation with TOI said that he didn’t receive any retention offer from RCB. He made it to the record that RCB called him and informed him about the three retained players and said that the franchise will go after his name in the auction.

The 31-years old said that he had never thought of leaving RCB in the IPL.

“I am emotionally attached to RCB. I never thought I would play for some other team. People and fans on social media are still asking me ‘why did you ask for this much money?’. The reality is that Mike Hesson (RCB Director of Cricket) called me and said ‘Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions’ (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj),” said Yuzvendra Chahal.

The spin wizard further mentioned that neither RCB asked him whether he wants to get retained nor any monetary discussions were held between him and the franchise.

“They didn’t ask me whether I wanted to be retained or tell me if they wanted to retain me. They just talked about the three retentions and I was told that – ‘we will go for you in the auction’. Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention. But I will always be loyal to my Bangalore fans. I love them so much, no matter what.”

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal kicked off his IPL journey with Rajasthan Royals back in 2010, but couldn’t get any game. In 2011, Mumbai Indians picked Chahal. The cricketer remained with MI for three years where he got a solitary opportunity to perform. In the 2014 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bagged Chahal’s services and since then the spinner has been playing for the franchise in red and black.

Rajasthan Royals bought Yuzvendra Chahal for INR 6.5 Crores:

During the auctions, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were up for Yuzvendra Chahal’s services, but the former franchise got the upper hand and ultimately bagged him for the Tata IPL 2022 at a price of INR 6.5 Crores.

Yuzvendra Chahal told that Rajasthan Royals have shown faith in him during the auction and he will pay back to the franchise. People will see the same Yuzvendra Chahal for RR, that he was for the RCB.

“Obviously. The jersey will be different, but the Yuzi will be the same. You will see the same kind of wicket-taking performances and celebrations from me. It’s a new journey for me and I am very excited about it. Everything will be the same, only the jersey will change. The way I bowled and performed for RCB, I will do the same for RR as well. Nothing is going to change. RR showed faith in me at the auction.”
