Why Kagiso Rabada Missed South Africa’s XI vs India in 1st Test | IND vs SA 1st Test 2025

Kagiso Rabada didn’t play the first test match between India and South Africa due to a rib injury. The South African captain, Temba Bavuma, confirmed during the toss at Eden Gardens in Kolkata that Rabada suffered the injury during training, which led him to miss the first test, and Corbin Bosch replaced him in the squad.

India and South Africa are playing a two-match test series as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027. Both teams have an excellent opportunity to get the second spot in the ICC WTC Points Table; however, it’s going to be a close contest. India and South Africa areplaying the first test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

What happened before the Test?

Rabada suffered a rib injury during the training before the test series started. After medical tests, the team management advised that he is not fully fit and should not play the first test until he recovers fully. Rabada is South Africa’s most important bowler, so the team decided to take a chance with his fitness.

Therefore, Kagiso Rabada missed out in the India vs South Africa 1st Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, his presence in the Playing XI always put the opposition in fear, which helped his team to get early wickets, but now, Indian batters will use this as an opportunity.

Corbin Bosch Replaces Rabada:

South Africa added a young all-rounder, Corbin Bosch, and replacing a world-class bowler like Rabada is not going to be an easy task for Bosch. Now, Marco Jansen will be leading the pace attack of South Africa, and there will be lots of pressure on him.

Generally, South Africa prefers to play with two specialist fast bowlers, but Rabada’s injury forced them to change their plan, and now Marco Jansen will have to put extra effort to fill the gap of Rabada in the Playing XI, along with other pacers.
