Why Jofra Archer will not play in IPL 2022 for Mumbai Indians? Jofra Archer price: The most successful Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI), played its trump card as they opened the bidding for English paceman Jofra Archer during the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, which concluded last night. MI flexed its financial muscle against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to get the services of experienced Jofra Archer.

The entire cricket fraternity, fans and media were set abuzz after Mumbai initiated its relentless bidding for Archer. MI had a quiet and passive IPL mega auction until that moment, but that was the time when Mumbai opted to become proactive and rope in a few good players.

Following a long-fought bidding contest against RR and SRH, MI signed up England’s Jofra Archer for INR 8 Crores.

While a few experts termed Mumbai’s move to buy Jofra Archer as a game-changer, some doesn’t appear pleased with the way MI went about this mega auction.

Despite being injured, Archer placed himself in the highest price slab of INR 2 Crores and the bidding for him accelerated straight away with MI taking the honour to initiate the war.

Why Jofra Archer will not play in IPL 2022 for Mumbai Indians?

English paceman Jofra Archer is still in his recovery process. He sustained an elbow injury back in March 2021 and subsequently went for surgery. He missed the IPL 2021 owing to the trouble caused by his elbow.

Archer yet another time sustained an elbow injury after recovering once while playing in the County Championship 2021 (Sussex vs Kent). Owing to the injury, he had to miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and Ashes 2021-22.

“The ECB has registered Jofra Archer for the auction with a view to potential participation in 2023 and 2024, as due to his current injury it is unlikely that he can participate in IPL 2022,” IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin had informed the franchises ahead of the auction.

Mumbai Indians will not get any replacement for Jofra Archer in the IPL 2022 as he is already injured. He will return back to the IPL in the 2023 season and play for MI along with Jasprit Bumrah and others.

The five times IPL champions have Archer in their plans and he will bowl in tandem with Jasprit Bumrah. Both the pacers will form lethal pairs of destruction and the experts are eagerly waiting for that reunion to happen as quickly as possible.
