Farooqi Mankad Shadab Khan: It felt like ‘déjà Vu as Naseem Shah’s excellent batting skills snatched flesh from Lion’s jaw. Pakistan won the last-over thriller by 1 wicket outclassing Afghanistan. Last Over also managed to grab a controversial moment where Farooqi mankad Shadab Khan in the final over of AFG vs PAK 2nd ODI.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Both Afghan openers held intact and combined together for an over 200 runs opening stand. Wicketkeeper-batsman Gurbaz was solid on the pitch and struck 151 runs with a strike rate of 100. Riding on his ton and a half runs and Ibrahim Zadran’s 80, Afghanistan finally managed to put 300 runs on board.

In the chase, Pakistan also got off to a good start with a 50-run opening stand and then a 120-run second-wicket partnership. Pakistan were 176 for 2 wickets down and soon 211 for 6 wickets down. Then came the Player of the Match Shadab Khan. His quick 48 off 35 helped Pakistan needing 11 runs off the last over.

Fazalhaq Farooqi had the ball in his hands in the last over with Naseem Shah on the strike and Shadab Khan on the non-striker’s end. Farooqi marked his run-up and ran to the bowling crease and he found Shadab short of his ground. With game awareness at the moment, he ran him out at the non-striker’s end.

As he started to run up, Farooqi quickly noticed that the Pakistani batsman had already left the crease before he had even delivered the ball, and in an instant of pure awareness, he stopped mid-action to remove the bail.

At a vital point in the game, the Afghan pacer’s foresight allowed his side to dismiss the threatening batter. Shadab, on the other hand, walked back to the pavilion shaking his head incredulously, appearing unsatisfied with his dismissal.

Despite Shadab’s dismissal, the game had a thrilling finish as Pakistan managed to win by only one wicket against Afghanistan in the last over. Naseem Shah managed to sneak a boundary to the third-man barrier, ensuring Pakistan won the three-game series 2-0. Despite the Afghan bowlers fighting hard, with Farooqi leading the attack and getting three wickets, the Afghan squad failed to win an ODI against Pakistan.

Now, Pakistan and Afghanistan will battle in the third and last ODI of this bilateral series on 26th August. Afghanistan will once again fight hard to snatch the first win against Pakistan whereas Pakistan will look for a clear sweep and perfect series result just before heading into Asia Cup 2023.
