A Solid Win and A Controversial RUNOUT; Check How Things Went in the PAKISTAN vs BANGLADESH 2nd ODI

Pakistan registered a convincing win over Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Friday (March 13). The visitors defeated Bangladesh by 128 runs via the DLS method, leveling the three-match series 1-1 and setting up an exciting decider. 

Pakistan's domination in batting and bowling departments

Pakistan started aggressively after being asked to bat first. Young opener Maaz Sadaqat played a fearless knock in only his second ODI. The left-hander smashed 75 runs off 46 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes. His attacking approach helped Pakistan race past 85 runs in the powerplay.

After Sadaqat’s dismissal, the scoring slowed slightly. However, Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan rebuilt the innings with a solid 109-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Agha looked fluent throughout his innings and scored a valuable 64 runs, while Rizwan supported him at the other end.

Pakistan seemed set for a massive total, but a sudden collapse followed later in the innings. Bangladesh fought back strongly and Pakistan eventually finished on 274 in 47.3 overs, losing their last seven wickets for just 43 runs.

Bangladesh’s chase never really took off. They lost three early wickets and were reduced to 15/3, putting them under huge pressure. Although Litton Das tried to fight back with 41 runs, wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

Pakistan’s bowlers dominated the second half of the match. Maaz Sadaqat impressed with the ball as well, picking up 3 wickets, while Haris Rauf also claimed 3 wickets. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 114 in 23.3 overs, handing Pakistan a comfortable 128-run victory.

Agha's Controversial RUNOUT

The most talked-about moment of the match came in the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings, when Salman Ali Agha was involved in a controversial run-out. The ball was pushed back toward Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and it travelled toward Agha at the non-striker’s end. As both players moved to collect the ball, Agha was still outside his crease. Miraz quickly picked up the ball and broke the stumps, leading to an appeal.

The third umpire later confirmed that Agha was out as he was outside the crease when the stumps were broken. After the match, Agha admitted that Miraz’s action was within the laws of the game, but said he personally would have handled the situation differently.

He explained that he thought the ball had already hit his pad and back, so he was simply trying to return the ball to the bowler rather than attempting a run. Agha said, “If you ask me what I would have done, I would have done things differently. According to the law, what he has done is fine, but when we talk about sportsman spirit, I think that should be up there.”

Despite the heated moment on the field, Agha later clarified that it was just the heat of the moment and insisted that everything between the two players is fine now. With the series now tied 1-1, all eyes will be on the final ODI in Mirpur, where both teams will look to claim the series victory.
