Suryakumar Yadav declared completely fit to join Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024

IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav has been given his fitness clearance, and he is likely to play a part in MI’s next encounter against the Delhi Capitals at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) gave the fitness clearance to the 33 year old, who has been out of action since the South Africa tour. The NCA physios and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials didn’t want to take any risk with his fitness and gave him a green signal after getting satisfied with constant checks.

“He’s completely fit now. The NCA made him participate in some practice games and he looked in good touch. He can now join the Mumbai Indians camp for their remaining IPL 2024 matches. We wanted to make sure that when SKY goes back to MI camp, he is fully fit and ready to play matches. He didn’t return to full fitness before the IPL, so we waited to carry out some more tests to see if he felt any kind of discomfort while he was batting. He underwent three fitness tests and now he is back in tip top condition,” a BCCI source said.

The number one T20i batter had suffered a grade two tear in his ankle during the South Africa T20i series last year and got ruled out for seven weeks initially. But he suffered another injury and he underwent a hernia operation, which ruled him out till now.

Surya’s return will make the Mumbai Indians breathe a sigh of relief as they have lost three consecutive matches in IPL 2024 so far.
